As the heat tapers off and the leaves begin to turn brown, Dallas is keeping us busy. Between Halloween festivities and pumpkin spice lattes, keep yourself healthy with one of the many fitness events in Dallas this month. And then, drink that pumpkin spice latte. You could even finish it off with one of those pumpkin cream cheese muffins – we won’t tell.

BMW Dallas Social Run

Even though Berlin and Dallas are separated by more than 5,000 miles, they have partnered with each other to stay in shape. As “sister cities,” the BMW Berlin Marathon and the BMW Dallas Marathon are launching a contest that gives Dallas runners a chance to win an expenses-paid trip to the 2017 BMW Berlin Marathon. Anyone who registers for December’s BMW Dallas Marathon is eligible, as long as they attend one of the free social runs hosted by a DFW area BMW dealer. Register here for October’s social run, which will take place at Classic BMW in Plano.

OCTOBER 15

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

One of the most recognizable charity races in the nation will come to NorthPark Center on Oct. 15. As always, 100 percent of the net proceeds from the race will go toward the foundation, with 75 percent staying within the community to help fund local programs. Learn more about Susan G. Komen’s Dallas branch here or register for the race here.

Walk for Freedom

Held at Klyde Warren Park, the third annual Walk for Freedom shines a light on human trafficking and helps to raise funds for awareness. Participants place black tape over your mouth and march in single-file to walk for those who are bound in modern-day slavery. Register here to walk.

OCTOBER 22 & 23

Tough Mudder

OCTOBER 24

St. Jude 2016 Annual Golf Classic

Grab your golf clubs for a great cause and join in on the St. Jude Golf Classic at the Stonebriar Country Club. The scramble format golf tournament costs $500 per golfer or $2,000 per foursome. The proceeds directly benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Find more information here.

OCTOBER 29

The Lowest Greenville Derby

A day at the races gets a human overhaul in Lowest Greenville. Equestrian participants are traded out for runners, and 16 teams will compete in four heats until the winners are crowned. Spectators will be in tents along the course, “betting” (or, entering raffles) on the teams in each of the heats and the championship. To get into the Halloween spirit a couple days early, runners can wear a costume or derby wear from the waist up, and spectators are encouraged to get as creative as possible with the “fancy wear” criteria. Proceeds will go to Genesis Women’s Shelter and their services and counseling benefitting women and children who have survived domestic violence. Sign up or learn more about the race and the shelter here.

Intense Workouts with Bryan & Dr. Bruce

Burn calories every Saturday morning with an hour-long workout full of high-energy exercise at Klyde Warren Park. Bring a set of dumbbells (They recommend 8-10 pound weights or 3-5 pounds for youth and seniors.), a water bottle, sunscreen, and a towel–because you’re going to sweat. Top off your workout with the Saturday food trucks, which stay open until 3 p.m.

Zumba at Klyde Warren Park

Every Wednesday evening at 6 p.m., strut your stuff with Zumba at Klyde Warren Park.

Take a Class at VITAL Fitness Studio

After a few months of renovation, VITAL Fitness Studio reopened Oct. 1 with a newly remodeled 3,600-square-foot subterranean space. An extension of The Joule, the boutique-like studio will serve guests as well as downtown workers and dwellers. The largest aspect of the renovation is seen in the studio’s new indoor cycling studio, equipped with 24 state-of-the-art Stages SC Series bikes and performance IQ metrics, and adjacent group fitness studio.

“When the studio opened in 2014, classes focused on yoga and core fitness,” says manager Caitlin Costa. “We’ve taken those and added a unique variety of innovative classes that include cycling, TRX, HIIT and personal training. We wanted to give guests the opportunity to find a category of fitness that best suits their needs.”

In addition to the revamped classes, VITAL will also offer individual training sessions. Featuring seven rainfall showers, the men and women’s locker rooms are stocked with products from The Spa at The Joule. Complimentary valet is provided by The Joule and validated parking is available in the nearby DalPark Garage.
