Your $35 registration fee pays for a weekend food pack for low-income students in Farmer’s Branch, making sure that they don’t have to wait until Monday mornings to eat again. Bill Rodgers, four-time winner of both the Boston and NYC marathons, will make a special appearance at the race, and you’ll get the opportunity to put together your food pack while at the race. First-place runners get a $1,000 prize, while second-place runners win $750 and third-place runners $500. Register here.

Ninth Annual BvB Dallas Powderpuff Football Game

For a $25 donation, you get entry to the kick-off and after-party to watch a good game and support ending the disease that currently finds itself as the sixth-leading cause of death among Americans. Donate here to help BvB reach their $500,000 goal, and your name will be read at will call. There are no physical tickets.

Women’s Self-Defense and Kid’s ‘Stranger Danger’ Workshop

Led by Nick Chamberlain, this free workshop and workout will teach women and kids to empower themselves and fight back. You’ll learn techniques to fend off potential attackers, general self-defense skills, and how to avoid dangerous situations. Participants can “Break a Board for a Buck,” where they’ll be taught how to break a wooden plank with their hands. Every dollar benefits the Genesis Women’s Shelter. There will also be a kid’s stranger danger workshop for children ages 4 and up to teach basic martial arts exercises, games, and “stranger danger” lessons. Safety tips will be given from a DPD representative, as well as 100 free snow cones from the Big D Kona Ice truck. Though the event itself is free, participants are encouraged to bring a monetary donation or household items to benefit the Genesis Women’s Shelter.
