Leading Off (10/17/16)

Cowboys and FC Dallas get big wins, White Rock Skate closes, Union Station turns 100, and more.

Cowboys Win Again. Dak Prescott finally threw an interception, and also had two fumbles. But: he threw for three touchdowns, one of which came on the drive immediately following the pick, and led the Cowboys to a 30-16 win over the Green Bay Packers. That’s five in a row, and the Cowboys go into their bye week in first place. [rounds up nine guys to steal alphorn from Swiss Yodeling Festival in a complicated, charismatic heist; climbs to top of Reunion Tower; blows alphorn for a full hour] It’s time. Ezekiel Elliott had 157 yards, becoming the first rookie to have more than 130 yards in four straight games.

White Rock Skate Closes After Four Decades. Total bummer.

Grand Prairie Man Arrested For Murder, After Posting Photos on Snapchat of Pistols. Zachary Rico, 19, was seen arguing with Jacob Vidaurri, 20, moments before a shooting that left Vidaurri dead. Hours earlier, Rico had Snapchatted two photos, one of him posing with a gun and another of two pistols. Maybe he’s innocent, but Rico is not exactly making it easy on himself.

Arlington Voters Split on Rangers Stadium Proposal. According to a poll, 42 percent are for, 42 are against. So, contrary to what everyone initially thought, the deal is maybe not [man, I am begging you not to do this — ed.] quite a [please don’t, pleaseed.home run. [You’re fired — ed.]

Union Station Celebrates Its Centennial. Mayor Rawlings and other city leaders will participate in a ceremony today, an increasingly rare chance to see the mayor in his train engineer’s hat.

FC Dallas Takes Back Supporters’ Shield Lead. It wasn’t looking great for FCD: after Colorado had taken a one-point Shield lead going into Sunday, the squad was down a goal to Seattle and running out of time. Then Maxi Urruti leveled the match in the 80th minute and Carlos Ruiz put them ahead just before stoppage time. With the Rapids losing to Portland, now they need only a draw against the LA Galaxy to take the Shield. That’s the good news. Bad news: not long after Pescadito’s game winner, midfielder Mauro Diaz went down after a clumsy challenge and could be out for a good long time. And fellow all-star  Kellyn Acosta picked up a knock as well.
