Jurors Find Enrique Arochi Guilty in Christina Morris Case. After 17 hours of deliberation and a night sequestered in a hotel, 12 jurors decided to convict Enrique Arochi of the aggravated kidnapping of Christina Morris two years ago in Plano. On Monday morning, the trial’s sentencing phase will begin. Jurors will also determine the punishment, which could be up to life in prison for Arochi, although will be eligible for probation.

Mayor Rawlings Wants to Delay the May 2017 Bond Election. He told the City Council yesterday that he would prefer the election happen in fall 2017 instead of spring because there is still a lot to sort out with the broken police and fire pension fund. The pension board wants the city to come up with hundreds of millions of dollars that it doesn’t have. But the council members did not agree that the election should be pushed back as that would delay critical improvements regarding streets, among a laundry list of other things.

One Dallas DA Hopeful Will Seek Residency Requirement Waiver. At least 10 attorneys want Gov. Greg Abbott to appoint them as Dallas County’s next district attorney after Susan Hawk resigned, but one hasn’t lived in the county long enough. Dianne Kathryn Jones McVay hasn’t lived in Dallas County for six months, a requirement for the position. But she said she will ask for a waiver from the governor’s office. She did live in Dallas County from 1986-2010 before moving to North Carolina. She moved back to Denton County in 2014 and moved to Dallas County the day Hawk resigned. Whomever Gov. Abbott appoints will hold the office for two years before running in the November 2018 election.
