The latest on the Christina Morris kidnapping trial, the North Texas stalker-turned-killer, and countywide pay raises.

Dallas County OKs Pay Raises All Around. On Tuesday, Dallas county commissioners voted to give county employees 8-percent pay raises, which Judge Clay Jenkins calls the “biggest tax burden in the history of Dallas County.” Those siding with the Dallas County Sherrif’s Association, however, say it’s long overdue and necessary to keep good officers on staff. Meanwhile over in City Hall, the council will have a similar battle today, fighting over police pay and property taxes.

The Christina Morris Kidnapping Trial May End Today. Jurors began deliberations yesterday, and have already resumed today, to decide whether Enrique Arochi is guilty of aggravated kidnapping. To accuse Arochi, jurors will have to determine that he did in fact intend to inflict bodily injury, sexually abuse, or terrorize Morris. And with questionable DNA evidence found in the trunk of Arochi’s Camaro, as well as conflicting testimonies on cell phone data, the jury’s task is not an easy one.

Go Ahead and Google Before Tinder Meet-Ups. While out to lunch with the gals at work last week, one of them confessed to performing her own background checks on all potential dates. To some of us, it sounded a little nuts. But then there’s the real-life horror story in which a TWU student goes home with a guy after barhopping, and by morning, her dismembered body is found in a kiddie pool at a Grapevine park. It turns out Jacqueline Vandergriff’s date that night, Charles Dean Bryant, had been arrested in Denton less than a week before for stalking an ex. So, check away ladies. It really can’t hurt to be overly cautious.
