James Madison High, an Object Lesson in Patronage

It seemed there for awhile that DISD was making progress. Let's hope that doesn't change.

Yesterday I was talking with Frisco’s mayor, Maher Maso, about how a thriving Dallas is good for his city. He said he once told Mayor Mike Rawlings that Dallas’ No. 1 priority should be improving DISD. In his view, that’s the engine that drives everything else.

With that in mind, this morning I read a brilliant post about DISD written by Jim Schutze. In it, he takes to task the Morning News for making an ignorant assumption about the principal turnover rate in the district. The paper reports that the rate has gone down since Superintendent Mike Miles left, saying that’s a good thing. Schutze looks at one specific example, James Madison High School, in South Dallas, and explains what the News is missing — and how patronage is still very much alive and well within DISD. As I say, it’s a brilliant post. It deserves your time.
