Fans of arena-friendly prog-pop group, the Mars Volta, and their ancestral emo predecessors, At the Drive-in, will be happy to hear that the founding members’ have a new project called Antemasque, which is playing a show at Trees this evening. That would be musicians Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez Lopez, who became quite famous while simultaneously putting the rather unlikely locale of El Paso on the musical map in the late 90s. When At the Drive-In played a reunion show at Trees a couple of years ago, the venue was more than sold out. Will the gentlemen’s newest project yield the same interest? You’ll have to find out tonight.

Elsewhere this evening, the circus is still in town, which explains the sudden rush of traffic in a usually quiet Victory Park of late. And Les Misérables is still in a strong run at the Wyly. It’s as popular as ever, judging by the amount of ticket requests I get from friends who think I possess superpowers as a magical free admission fairy (Spoiler: I don’t).
