First things first: I would like to thank everyone who came out to our “Best of Big” D event last night. I probably enjoyed the elaborate buffet concocted by See’s Candies a bit more than a grown man should, and I was really in awe of the effort put forth by my fellow staffers and interns for making it all happen. Congrats to all of the winners, especially KERA’s Doualy Xaykaothao, who seemed genuinely surprised at finding out she was designated Best Local Tweeter. Here she is discussing the award with our emcee, Brad Pearson:

Got a nice surprise last night. @DMagazine says I'm not so bad at tweeting. I'm now "Best Local Tweeter." Sweet! pic.twitter.com/IReufYHYN5

In continuing with the “Best of Big D” theme (get used to that for a while), the Magnolia in the West Village won our award for best movie theater, but they also host small art events in the hall that connects the concessions with the bar. Artist Josh Banks will have an opening for his Genie Visions exhibition this evening from 6 pm to 9 pm, and you can find more information here, along with all of our other art recommendations for the weekend.
Electro-pop singer Sudie has been quickly making a name for herself in the city lately, and she’ll appear at an event tonight in the Design District that was co-sponsored between the Meadows School’s Art and Urbanism Initiative and FrontRow. It’s called “A City Under the Influence” and will feature free drinks from Bombay Sapphire as well as a variety of musical acts and visual art. This all takes place at the FAN (Fashion Art Network) gallery, and you can find all the relevant info over on FrontRow.
