Our FrontRow critic Lindsey Wilson recommends that you make time in your busy holiday schedule to catch David Sedaris’ Santaland Diaries at the WaterTower Theatre, so I’m passing this along to you as an excellent way to occupy your Wednesday evening.

Before earning fame and fortune as a humorist, Sedaris worked, briefly, as an elf in a Macy’s department store. His experience, expanded and exaggerated for laughs in an essay, earned him his first stint on NPR and eventually became this one-man show. Actor Garret Storms, who I’ve seen a few times on stage at Stage West, steps into the role of Crumpet the Elf to offer a somewhat more biting take on all of the trappings of the season. Here’s Lindsey’s full review, so you can read before you go.

In a similar vein, found footage splicers Everything Is Terrible! hosts a holiday special at the Texas Theatre. EIT makes videos out of abandoned tapes and present the creations live with puppets. The stage will become the “tackiest wonter wonderland imaginable.” There will be fake snow, a sing-a-long, candy, and a visit from Santa, plus a good look at Christmases past.

In the Design District, the co-working professionals who inhabit Weld invite you to tour their creative home. The second annual Weld Show offers a variety of artwork, including gallery exhibition curated by former National Geographic director of photographer Sabine Meyer, and it’s free to attend.  You can RSVP by email here if you’d like to let them know you’re coming. The exhibit is a retrospective of Weld’s collectively successful year—the coworking space, which recently added the curated menswear website/shop Need to its list of members,  is expanding to Nashville.
