I spent most of yesterday feeling like it should be Wednesday, so things are little weird with me right now.
In the Arts District, the Dallas Wind Symphony puts on sequel to last year’s concert of Oscar Award-winning movie scores. The evening includes music from The Wizard of Oz, the main theme from 1998’s The Red Violin, “Colonel Bogey March” from director David Lean’s 1957 World War II film The Bridge of the River Kwai, and more. If you arrive early, take part in a conversation in the Meyerson lobby with the Dallas Wind Symphony’s director of education, Carl Johnson, about the songs of the silver screen. Speaking of wind(s), the heavy outdoor variety today is on the annoying side, but that shouldn’t stop you from walking over to Lark on the Park for drinks and dinner. Tuesdays can be fancy, too.
In Fort Worth, the Modern Art Museum hosts their evening lecture series. Tonight’s guests are eco-artists Newton and Helen Harrison. It’s a discipline I’ll admit to not knowing too much about, but their work, usually done in partnership with biologists, urban planners, and architects, sound fascinating. The Harrisons will present “The Force Majeure – from the Tibetan Plateau, to the Highlands of Europe, to the Sierra Nevada, and then the Bays of San Francisco,” a piece that illustrates the effects of global warming across various climates, and the whole thing is a collaboration of the Make Art With Purpose Festival.
