The assassination site is like a stage set. The one-time book depository, the grassy knoll, the triple underpass, Dealey Plaza with its dueling colonnades, the Old Red courthouse, even the brick building to the south of the Plaza (not in these two photos). Its name and use today escapes me, but it’s still there, too. While the Plaza itself was designated a National Historic Landmark District in ’93, the original buildings that surround it really complete the sense of permanence. It’s Ford’s Theatre, only outdoors.
