Surprisingly happy to see a Monday.
Tonight, we have a happening that hasn’t happened in a while. Every so often, the talented Liz Mikel put on a stunning show on what’s traditionally a performer’s night off. She’ll sing a set of her favorite blues songs at South Side on Lamar, and she’s not even charging for admission. The Cedars Social, right down the street, is your best bet for before-and-after drinks. See our most recent review, from the May issue, for menu considerations. I always end up getting the mac and cheese because I have no self control. Soda Bar is nice, too, but since the weather may be inclement, your rooftop enjoyment might be limited.
The Highland Park Film Festival offers another indoor activity with a free screening of Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard, a classic that revolves around a struggling young screenwriter and a former silent film star who refuses to accept that she has faded into obscurity. You have plenty of dining choices around the Park Cities.
