Things To Do In Dallas Tonight: April 23

|

E.L. Konigsburg, the children’s author, died Friday. From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler meant a lot to me as a kid. It was my first introduction to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Unfortunately for all you David Sedaris fans, and there are legions of you, apparently, his appearance tonight at the Winspear Opera House is entirely sold out.

You still have other options, since tonight happens to be World Book Night.  As the name suggests, it’s a global event. To celebrate, Downtown Dallas Inc. is throwing one of their pop-up happy hours in Main Street Garden, and of course the Big Read Dallas is all up in this. Come hang out, have a beer, and read Fahrenheit 451 with us. The happy hours are usually cash only, so come prepared.

Update Per The Big Read Dallas: “It’s a bit gloomy outside, so tonight’s party w @DtownDallasInc is rescheduled for tomorrow from 5:30-7:30 @ Campisi’s downtown. Free books!”

Finally, it’s the second-to-last show of the Oral Fixation storytelling series, and the theme is “Miss the Boat.” Since you’re presumably not one of the folks who has to go up there and tell a personal story to a bunch of strangers, you shouldn’t need the Dramamine. According to the show’s producer, Nicole Stewart, the McKinney Avenue Contemporary space where they perform is close to capacity, so buying your tickets online is recommended.

For more to do tonight, go here.

[Update – The David Sedaris event tonight isn’t necessarily sold out, as I was told yesterday, but the AT&T PAC’s website has some sort of malfunction. You won’t be able to buy tickets online, so give the AT&T PAC a call instead.]
