Things To Do In Dallas Tonight: Mar. 5

They are here tonight to entertain you.

Remember when Spike Lee was directing a reboot of Oldboy? I guess that’s still happening, in the appropriately creepy and awesome month of October. However, original director Park Chan-wook has his own Hollywood opening here shortly with Stoker, which looks, frankly, awesome.

Leading up to the Dallas Film Society’s screening of Stoker on Thursday, the Angelika Dallas is offering a retrospective of Chan-wook’s Vengeance trilogy, starting tonight with the original Oldboy. We’re skipping Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, I guess, because tomorrow we jump straight to Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. Now, I’ve seen Oldboy once, years ago, at the recommendation of the guy I was dating at the time. I watched it with my roommate, Pam, who hated it, and then after a few months, said that it was one of her favorite movies. Whatever. It is a screwed up tale, to say the least, and a movie worth seeing at least just the once. Sadly, though, The Grand Palace of Boobs and 29 Degree Beer is not yet available for your dining pleasure. Enjoy this while it lasts. And maybe go to Urban Taco instead.

Also this evening, Juan De Marcos and the Afro-Cuban All Stars, not to be confused with the Johnny Depp movie Don Juan DeMarco that I think came free with an order of Papa John’s pizza, take over Annette Strauss Square for an evening of music and dancing, if you’re feeling especially brave. Maybe just a little wiggle. Happily, the square is BYOB, and coincidentally, Nancy got a request for Cuban food on SideDish this morning.  Havana Cafe  in Casa Linda is a bit of a trek, but appropriate for those who like to coordinate their meals with their activities. I don’t know if that’s a thing, honestly, but the option is there. However, Jorge’s always delivers as a reliable nearby option for food and drink.

For more to do tonight, go here.
