Apparently, we only get one more season of Arrested Development. Netflix giveth Kristen Wiig as young Lucille Bluth, and Netflix taketh away.
First of all, I must tell you that Art Spiegelman‘s Dallas Museum of Art appearance tomorrow is close to selling out. I urge you to purchase tickets ASAP. And if you haven’t read his incredible Maus, you should do so. And now, speaking of giving, Erykah Badu is very graciously sharing her birthday with all of us with her “birthday jammy” concert at the Granada. It happens to be her actual-factual (which she shares with the late, wonderful Johnny Cash), and you can help her celebrate with her all-improv group The Cannabinoids. We get by with a little help from our friends. You can’t go too much wrong with pre-concert dinner and drinks at Granada’s own Sundown next door. The Libertine is always solid, but beware: tonight is half-price food night. Go early, or prepare to wait.
Elsewhere, the Dallas Chamber Symphony, our city’s newest classical group, screens the strange and stylized 1920s German horror film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, at Dallas City Performance Hall. It’s widely considered one of the best monster movies of the silent era, and since DCS seems to have cornered the market on cool old movies set to new music, it’ll be accompanied by Austin-based composer Brian Satterwhite’s original score, conducted by Richard McKay. The concert is bookended by a pre-show conversation with Satterwhite, and an after-party at Jorge’s where you can snag an Estrella and free appetizers.
