D Magazine (Intern) at the Golden Globes: A Bleacher-Based On-the-Scene Fashion Report

One of the requirements of being a star is the ability to get irrationally excited at the sight of complete strangers, as Jon Hamm and Julie Bowen demonstrate.

The 70th Annual Golden Globes were Sunday, and I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to be in the (cold) stands with my entertainment crazed family.

As an onlooker, the bright red carpet was turned into a sea of blood orange, nude colors, and metallics, as these were the hottest trends of the night.

Stars who graced the carpet in the red-orange hue included Zooey Deschanel, winner Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Haute Couture, and Globe winner Claire Danes, who received her Versace at 9 p.m. the night before. Claire (a new mom as of three weeks ago) was exuding happiness, and very chatty on the carpet and at post events. I can only assume it was date night for her and husband Hugh Dancy.

Being in the bleachers alongside the red carpet is a lively affair, where most of the stars are thrilled to come by and acknowledge us. While rocking a shirtless Stella McCartney suit, co-host Amy Poehler exclaimed “My chest is going to pop out if I lift my arms up, so I can’t wave to you guys.”

Definite highlight: the beautiful Rosario Dawson and Jack Black exchanged hugs followed by introducing their moms to each other. Bringing your mother is always a smart move during awards season.

Brian Austin Green. Now you remember whom I’m talking about?

I had a moment with Megan Fox’s husband, Brian Austin Green, when I shared with him that he was my favorite rapper. Does anyone remember when he attempted his music career in the ’90s? He looked handsome in person – maybe only a little bit of Botox between the end of 90210 and now.

When I spotted Connie Britton after the show, I couldn’t help myself from shouting “Texas Forever!” She may have been nominated for Nashville, but all I could think about was Friday Night Lights. She giggled and scurried off to the InStyle party.

I was on high alert for the famous couples of the evening. Winner Ben Affleck and wife Jennifer Garner were holding hands down the carpet. Emily Blunt and John Krasinski were all smiles, as she wore a breathtaking Michael Kors (which looked better in person than the photos I have been looking through).

Kristen Bell and husband Dax Shepard had each other’s backs.

Pregnant Kristen Bell looked very appropriate (and still tiny) in her gown, escorted by Dax Shepard. The lovebirds were grazing each other’s backs during interviews, and he never left her side.

The look I could have done without: Winner Lena Dunham’s Zac Posen was clearly not in her comfort zone. As much as I love her, she walked the carpet slouchy and continued to mess with her dress straps. She should work on getting a new stylist with the continued success of Girls.

Given the freezing temperatures in southern California, stars kept close to the heaters on the carpet, and post show, it seemed as though the outside parties, like HBO’s, were not the most popular choices.

What you also didn’t see on TV: Stylist Rachel Zoe’s after-party hair was unpredictable perfection. Her hair was up in a bun as she grazed by me in the Beverly Hilton lobby and I about died.
