The Omni Dallas won’t open till Friday, but yesterday Zac and I got the nickel tour from Ed Netzhammer, the general manager. You’d expect right now that Netzhammer would be pulling out his hair, given that he’s about to open a 1,001-room hotel in a couple days. Not so much. Netzhammer has opened several Omnis (including the one in Fort Worth), and he says this is smoothest opening he’s overseen. He feels so good about how things are going that he even went to the Cowboys game Sunday. And Netzhammer said that right after he finished our tour, he was planning to open a bottle a Scotch and begin work on a 5,000-piece jigsaw puzzle depicting an aerial nighttime view of the Sahara. (Just kidding!)

Staff mills about in the lobby. From now till December 30, you can book a room for as little as $111 to celebrate the hotel's opening. Get it? 11/11/11?The hotel displays more than 6,700 commissioned art pieces in the guest rooms and public space from 145 local artists. This enormous cloud canvas hanging in another part of the lobby was done by Ted Kincaid.According to the press release, Texas Spice "captures the true flavor of Texas with an emphasis on local ingredients and southern style offering a twist on hometown classics. The innovative farm-to-market concept incorporates using the freshest ingredients to create great food and a casual dining experience."Here's the bar at Bob's Steak & Chop House. Only time will tell if it attracts as many bookies as the bar did at the original Bob's on Lemmon.The entrance to the sports bar, called the Owner's Box, feature a glass floor with 21 reproduced newspaper stories about great Dallas sports moments. Netzhammer said they were prepared to pull one of them up and replace it with a Rangers World Series panel. Um, but ... On the Uptown Terrace on the fourth floor, guests can lounge at an infinity pool and wave to guests at the Hyatt.Prefer to just chill in the penthouse president's suite?
