DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO SPELL “IMPEACH”

By |

Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan Hecht keeps digging a deeper hole for himself. Maybe it’s time for the Legislature to give him a non-too-gentle prod. The problems began when he lobbied publicly and vociferously for Harriet Miers for the U.S. Supreme Court. That brought an admonishment from the judicial ethics panel, which Hecht then spent $340,000 in legal fees to get overturned. But where does a poor judge find $340,000? He solicits it from “friends.” One friend turns out to have been Bob Perry of Perry Homes, who sent Hecht $16,000. That was very nice. It had nothing to do, I’m sure, with the fact that Perry has a case right now before the Texas Supreme Court. A tip of the hat to the News‘ Wayne Slater who broke the news of the bribe-looking payment this morning.
