There’s not always enough time in the day to skim a lengthy, re-worded press release that’s been stamped with “breaking” or “exclusive.” And some stories don’t warrant an entire page of prose. Each week we’ll gather the most important tidbits of Dallas food news and post them here, on SideDish. Because sometimes all you need is the scoop.

The Flying Biscuit Café signs three-store agreement in Dallas: Armando Moreno, and operating partner Michael Esquibel, will open three new Flying Biscuit Café locations in the Dallas area, More specifically the Addison, North Dallas, and Lower Greenville neighborhoods. According to the release: “Both Moreno and Esquibel were drawn to The Flying Biscuit Café because of the restaurant’s food, atmosphere and long-term success. The partners saw a need for a breakfast and brunch concept like the one offered by The Flying Biscuit Café and felt that the brand would fit well with Dallas’ already strong food scene.”

The chain first opened in Atlanta in 1993 and currently has 14 locations across the Southeast. “Flying Biscuit’s menu offers a wide variety of dishes for all ages, from breakfast to dinner. In addition, the concept easily lends itself to catering and is perfect for any office or family gathering because it’s great food that’s easy to set up,” explains Brent Fuller, Brand Leader for The Flying Biscuit Café. “Dallas is a great market for The Flying Biscuit Café, as it has great neighborhoods and booming businesses. We are excited to open in the state of Texas in 2017.”

VERTS Mediterranean Grill to open at SMU: The chain restaurant is opening a location at 5600 SMU Blvd. on October 29. According to the release: “Co-founders Michael Heyne and Dominik Stein launched VERTS in 2011 with the simple idea of recreating the popular food they missed from their native Europe and making it available for American consumers. VERTS currently has locations across Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and Houston.”

“In 2008, Dominik and I spent an exchange semester at SMU,” co-founder and CEO Michael Heyne says. “It was truly a memorable time. We’re excited to return and bring our fresh, flavorful, Mediterranean fast-casual concept to the community.”

Trinity River Audubon Center to host Songbird Supper: Trinity River Audubon Center is hosting a fall fundraising dinner with proceeds supporting habitat conservation projects and outdoor education for North Texas children. “At Trinity River Audubon Center, we’re passionate about connecting city kids to the outdoors and building a foundation for conservation stewardship,” says Audubon Center director, Lucy Hale. “We work to open new eyes to nature whether it’s camping in the forest under a starry night sky, canoeing beside a beaver in the Trinity River, hearing an owl call for the first time, or cooking on the coals of a glowing campfire. The outdoors is an incredible context for life-long learning and a wonderful source for enriched life. We believe every child deserves the gift of this wild and beautiful world.” The dinner takes place on October 23 from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and features a meal from chef Graham Dodds, with appetizers, family-style main courses, desserts, wine, and local beer. Tickets cost $200 and can be purchased here.

New additions from chef Tony Street include a slow roasted pork chop with Calvados apple butter; Meatloaf covered in a sweet glaze made with tomato, molasses, bourbon and a hint of Sriracha; shrimp and grits; chicken pot pie; and a new burger.
