The Scoop: Doc B’s to Open, Sundown at Granada Offers New Menu, and More

There’s not always enough time in the day to skim a lengthy, re-worded press release that’s been stamped with “breaking” or “exclusive.” And some stories don’t warrant an entire page of prose. Each week we’ll gather the most important tidbits of Dallas food news and post them here, on SideDish. Because sometimes all you need is the scoop.

Doc B’s Fresh Kitchen to open:
Chicago-based Doc B’s Fresh Kitchen will open Dallas and Fort Worth locations next year. According to the release:

“North Texas diners can expect the same balanced menu with seasonal entrees, crave-worthy sandwiches and burgers, energizing salads and the popular Wok Out bowls, as well as an extensive selection of craft beers, wines and spirits. By partnering with farmers and small, best-in-class purveyors, Doc B’s sources the highest-quality ingredients for each scratch-made dish…Guests at Doc B’s at McKinney & Olive will enjoy a cozy and cool, neighborhood-inspired atmosphere. The expansive first-floor space boasts a fully open island kitchen, exposed 35-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, perfect for soaking up the Dallas sunshine. Comfortable, leather backed booths separate the dining room and bar, while Subzero wine coolers line the bar exterior. Texas inspired-artwork adorns the walnut and Carrara marble walls. Additional dining is available upstairs in the Doc B’s architecturally-designed mezzanine overlooking McKinney Ave., as well as on the expansive wrap-around patio with seating for 75.Doc B’s at The Shops at Clearfork features a 35-person oval bar, complete with six televisions, and wooden slats that lower the ceiling for a more intimate setting. Ideal for those who enjoy dining alfresco, this location boasts a 2,500-square-foot patio featuring Doc B’s signature yellow umbrellas and a fully structural canopy, all with built in heat lamps to protect from cooler weather. Guests will also be able to take advantage of an outdoor fire pit surrounded by Adirondack inspired furniture, perfect for enjoying a cocktail or appetizer while awaiting a table. Additional aspects include an open kitchen and completely operable storefront on all three sides of the dining room.”

The Dallas outpost will be located at 2021 McKinney Ave. in Uptown, while the Fort Worth location will be at The Shops at Clearfork.

Chef John Tesar to host Spoon seafood pop-up dinners: The chef and TV personality (Tesar was recently cast for season 14 of Top Chef) will host a series of pop-up dinners showcasing some of his favorite dishes from Spoon Bar & Restaurant, which closed in 2014. The dinners will take place on Oct. 28, Nov. 9, Nov. 14, and Nov. 17. with additional dinners announced throughout the holiday season. “Seafood has always been one of my culinary passions, and I’m truly excited to offer these events as an opportunity to cook my guests some of their favorite seafood dishes, as well as mine, from Spoon,” says Tesar. The dinners cost $135 per person or $200 including a wine pairing. Tickets can be purchased here.

Sundown at Granada launches new fall menu:
The popular Lower Greenville restaurant is shaking things up this season. Here’s a peek at new menu items:

The Cedars Backyard bar to open:
The Cedars backyard will open at 1326 South Lamar St. According to the release:

“The concept is a first of its kind in Dallas, utilizing a shipping container as a fully operational bar. Guests have the option to enjoy one of the fifteen beers on tap, tap cocktails, or traditional well cocktails, all while hanging out and enjoying the best possible view of the Dallas skyline. The Cedars Backyard provides a kitschy trailer park vibe, but more Airstream than Winnebago.”

“We wanted to have an affordable place to hang out, drink beer, and socialize, all in a cool environment,” says Chad Boyle, co-owner of The Cedars Backyard. The bar’s grand opening is Friday, November 4, at 5:30 p.m. Guests can sip $1 drinks all night.
