Mesero Miguel, the swanky Mexican-American restaurant on Henderson is closed for four days. Mico Rodriguez, one of the owners and the principal voice behind the restaurant, says he will reopen the space as Mesero on November 20 at 5PM. “Mesero Miguel never found its audience,” Rodriguez says. “The guests want what we’re doing at Mesero. That place is on fire.”
Confused? Until today, Rodriguez was operating three concepts: Mesero Miguel, Mr. Mesero, and Mesero. Mr. Mesero, on McKinney, was the first restaurant Rodriguez opened after his well-documented fall from grace. Mesero Miguel was a more ambitious project. The menu contained enchiladas, tacos, rice, and beans, but also featured pricey steaks, rabbit, duck, and regional Mexican dishes. Mesero, Mexican Spirit American Life, is a more casual Tex-Mex oriented spot in Inwood Village. “Mesero has really taken off,” Rodriguez says. “It’s more approachable and all I am going to do from now on,” Rodriguez says.
Rodriquez and his partners in Mesero, which is a separate group from the Mr. Mesero ownership, has signed a lease on the space formerly known as California Pizza Kitchen and, more recently, Jake’s Hamburgers, on Belt Line near Preston Road. “We are going to demo the building and rebuild,” Rodriguez says. “Then we’re going to open in Legacy West. We’re going to be very busy over the next 18 to 22 months.”
One can only wonder if Fake Steven Spielberg will continue to show up.
