Life House CookiesDallas has some great bakeries that are producing stellar French and American baked sweets and breads, but few of them offer the sit-down café culture that I love. I’m used to bakeries with stellar coffee, places where you can order a beautiful latte and a sandwich or house-made scone and spend some time staring out the window watching the world go by. Most of my favorite bakeries in town are “buy what you need and go somewhere else to enjoy them” kinds of places.

It was in Rockwall where I discovered The Life House, a cute little coffee shop and bakery that keeps the locals well caffeinated and offers delicious food and great coffee. It’s located in a little cottage and immediately upon walking through the entrance you feel like a guest in someone’s home. Between the organic coffee, comfortable furniture, and complimentary Wi-Fi everything about the place exudes a spend-some-time-here atmosphere.

Their commitment to using local and organic products in their baked goods and breads caught the attention of Green Grocer in Dallas where I found individually sized bags of The Life House’s Chocolate Chip.

I love these cookies. They have just the right amount of buttery crispness and interior chew, and the salt level is perfect. I find salt to be one of the most important but overlooked ingredients in baking, and getting that amount just right has the ability to elevate a cookie by balancing the sweetness.

You can learn more about The Life House and all of the great things they make on their website.
