Sweet and cool are the perfect words to describe this week’s market. Juicy pears, apples, grapes and figs, Israeli melons, and seedless watermelons will all make appearances this week at the market.
Chocolate and macaron Chef Joe Baker will have watermelon macarons again this week. (Also, look for him Aug. 4 on the Food Network’s “King of Cones!”)
Pop Star Popsicles’ John Doumas will be back with small-batch crafted popsicles made from fresh fruits, many from the Coppell Farmers Market producers, such as cantaloupe from Pure Land Organic and peaches from Larken Farms. Doumas purees the fruit and complements it with fresh-squeezed lime or lemon, adding fair trade organic evaporated cane syrup and organic dairy. He also offers a dairy-free coconut lime. A recent surprise addition to the produce mix are some early fall squash such as butternut, acorn, and spaghetti, plus a few pie pumpkins.

Market-to-Kitchen Series
The Market-to-Kitchen Chef Series continues at 10 a.m. Saturday with Jaelanne Gilliam, a personal chef and nutrition blogger. Gilliam will demonstrate make-ahead salad jars. Salad jars, which are the perfect summer lunch and use seasonal, local produce, are popular on Pinterest and other recipe-sharing outlets. Gillam took this idea and expounded on it, now preparing her own meals on-the-go. She has perfected this and knows the ins and outs creating the perfect salad jar without soggy greens.
Gilliam, who earned her degree from Le Cordon Bleu here in Dallas and did her internship in Italian cuisine, has found her passion in the slow foods movement and the back-to-basics of farm-to-table living. Her face is familiar to customers at the Latte Da Dairy booth, where she works many Saturdays.

Frisco Farmers Market
Austin-based AustiNuts will join the market this weekend. This vendor, who’s also been a guest of the Dallas Farmers Market, specializes in dry-roasting nuts. Because they have no added oils, additives or preservatives, dry-roasted nuts give a more natural flavor and a more defined crunch. AustiNuts will also have dried-fruit snacks, trail mixes, as well as gourmet chocolates and candies. Also new to the market this weekend is Stephanie Inge and her My Magic Mud tooth powder. This product is so natural, you can swallow it. For more information, check out their Facebook page.

If you’re looking something a little extra and special, stop by for Picklelicious Pickle’s Spicy Chicken Pickles (They were featured on “Oprah!”). Summer market staples such as peaches, blackberries, squash, cucumbers, purple hull peas, potatoes and onions will be on site, courtesy of Baugh Farms, Demases Farm, La Esperanza Farms and Sachse Farm. Berry Best Farm is back with the only organic blueberries in Texas. They are sweet and delicious! Waxahachie Downtown Farmers Market
This weekend, the market gears up for the Vegetable and Fruit Grilling Festival, an annual celebration hosted by the Ellis County Master Gardeners. Mark Arnold, county extension agent, of agriculture and natural resources at Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension Service, will man the grill. The Master Gardeners will collect donations from the market’s vendors and prepare the fruits and veggies for the grill. Samples will be handed out to the public, and there is no charge for this event. Food will start coming off the grill around 9 a.m. and will continue until everything is gone. Don’t miss out!
