I already thought Tequila Thursday was a universal ritual alongside Margarita Monday and Wine Wednesday, but apparently people didn’t give it much thought until National Tequila Day happened to fall on Thursday this year. Get your hangover remedies ready and put an extra change of clothes in that bag (Joe Nichols told me tequila makes your clothes fall off), because it is your God-given duty to take a shot of tequila with salt and lime or swirl it in a margarita. Just in case you aren’t up to par on your history, tequila came to this world as a gift from the generous gods of the Nahuatl people. Commence the mariachi music and restaurant specials, so we can give proper thanks.

The new kids on the block over at Mexican Sugar in Plano will hold a complimentary tequila sampling in honor of the day. From 5-9 PM, you can taste the flavors of Puro Verde Tequila, Espolon Tequila, Dulce Vida Tequila and Del Maguey Mezcal.

Lazaranda Modern Kitchen & Tequila has the spirit. But really, it’s in their name and they take it pretty seriously. All day you can enjoy their House Margarita for $4 or drink on their Pink Cadillac Margarita for $6. If you whisper sweet nothings in their ears like “It’s National Tequila Day” they will give you a shot of Blue Nectar Special Reserve Reposado for $8 instead of the normal $11.

Looking for a little seafood flair with that next shot? Mexican seafood restaurant La Calle Doce is bringing back their Thursday Night Flights special with Maestro Dobel Tequila. Eat your weight in chips and enjoy one crispy chicken taco and one beef brisket taco paired with a tequila tasting and a housemade strawberry margarita on the rocks for $15.95.

On The Border will feature a $2 House Margarita and $2 Lunazul Reposado Tequila shots. Get there during Happy Hour to revel in some $2 appetizers.

Dallas-based Goody Goody liquor will host in-store tequila tastings from 4-7 pm at each of its 13 locations in the Metroplex. Guests will receive an additional 10% off all tequila including Patron, Jose Cuervo and other popular brands.

Urban Taco already holds a key to my heart on Thursday with their half-off margarita special all day long, but in honor of this special occasion they will launch three new summer cocktails at just $3. The Las Brisas name after Las Brisas, Acapulco is made with Tapatio Blanco Tequila, St. Germain, lime juice, agave nectar, muddled cucumber and mint. The El Dragón is a smoky cocktail crafted with Mezcal Vago, lime juice, mango, habanero shrub and Ancho Reyes. Lastly, the Orange Pica is a citrusy margarita mixed with homemade lemon-infused tequila, fresh oranges, lime juice and muddled jalapeños. All other margarita and mojitos will be $5 all day.

Keeping in line with their usual Thursday deal, Cubiertos will host their weekly Tequila Tasting Thursday in the bar area between 6-7:30 pm. Individuals can sample a premium tequila for free with special reduced prices that night for the tequila on rotation.

Sigel’s off Greenville Avenue will celebrate from 6-8 pm with tequila samplings and open discussion as distillery representatives guide patrons through the complex knowledge of this spirit.

Known for their famous ‘rita around town, El Fenix will serve up their house margarita for $3.49.
