Pearl Cup has announced that it will be closing its flagship location on Henderson.
“It’s a sad day when you have to announce the closing of your first coffee shop location. We opened Pearl Cup Coffee when Henderson Avenue didn’t have much to offer other than a handful of bars. We had a hand in building the Dallas coffee culture to what it is today, and we are quite proud of that feat, but the incredibly high rents are simply not sustainable for a true coffee shop… We are very disappointed that we were unsuccessful at negotiating an affordable rent structure and that we will no longer be a part of this neighborhood.”
However, it does look like Houndstooth Coffee, an Austin-based company with two locations there, is moving into Pearl Cup’s old parking-unfriendly space. CultureMap‘s Teresa Gubbins reported this yesterday. Apparently, Houndstooth has the rent dough to make that space work for their first Dallas location. The new coffee shop should be open in the spring.
Pearl Cup still has three other locations (Winspear Opera House, St. Paul Building, and Richardson), but it is currently looking for a good replacement location for the Henderson shop.
