farmersMarket_02_charLast night’s chill sent anticipatory shivers down my back. As much as I loved your summer and fall, Texas, I’m ready to move on. The only downside is all of the markets closing for the season! Why can’t I have both? Bummer. Seriously, if you haven’t gone to a farmers market this year, go check out the nearest one to you before they wrap up for the winter.

Cowtown Farmers Market:

3821 Southwest Boulevard
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Cowtown’s market is hosting their annual October Harvest Festival from 8 to 12 p.m. on Saturday. Besides the artists booths, guest vendors and live music, there will also be cooking demos and sampling by the Culinary School of Fort Worth. Be sure to hit up the cakewalk for a chance to win market gift certificates and prizes. Stick around for some fall gardening tips, courtesy of Harvest Supply. Sounds like a good time! Don’t miss out.

Coppell Farmers Market:

793 S. Coppell Rd.
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Food Day for Kids is this Saturday. Celebrating healthy and affordable food, Food Day will feature games for kids like “Stump the Chef” with Coppell ISD’s chef Helen Duran, and lots of nutritional and educational activities for everyone to take part in. All of the vendors will have kid sized portions of their samples. If you check out their website you’ll find recipes that use food found at the market. Check it out this weekend!

White Rock Farmers Market:

702 N. Buckner Blvd
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

This weekend is the well-anticipated local market fall pie contest at the White Rock market. They’ve extended the entry to deadline to the day-of, so now there’s more time than ever to polish your favorite pie recipe for competition. If you’re more interested in tasting than baking, samples will be provided starting at 10:30 a.m. Judges will choose winners in the categories of Fruit, Nut, Chocolate, Cream/Custard, Savory and Youth. Winners will get market memberships and gift certificates, but let’s be honest: a pie competition makes all of us winners. Contestants pay $10 for every entry and bakers have to provide two pies for judging per entry. Tasting tickets are $5. Head over to their website to register your entries. Good luck!

Frisco Farmers Market:

6048 Frisco Square Blvd.
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

This the last Saturday of the Frisco Farmers Market for 2013. Little Johns has plenty of pretty pumpkins in stock. Along Came Tamale is bringing pumpkin desert tamales. That sounds divine. La Esperanza has tons of yellow squash and zucchini, and the Elegant Potter is bringing cool little pots, pot ornaments, and cute little plants for purchase at the market. Come by before it’s gone forever. Well, until next year.

Oak Lawn UMC Farmers Market:

3014 Oak Lawn Avenue
Saturday, 8:00 a.m.

This is the last weekend to find your classic OLUMC Farmers Market fare. You’ll find a wide selection of vendors, including Canon Coffee Roasters, Beau Tye, and Sharon King and her handmade cards. Oneal Grassfed Beefalo & Beef has lots of tasty cuts for purchase, and Bear Bait Honey Farm will have delicious golden honey farmed from local bee hives in the Oak Lawn area. Stop by to pick up fresh preserves from Diana Loring, or fresh eggs and goat cheese from Robin Peters. Keep in mind that there are actually two more farmers market weekends left. They’re calling it their Holiday Farmers Market weekends, and will feature lots of different vendors to get ready for the Christmas season. Be sure to stop by this weekend and the next two, as well.

Grapevine Farmers Market:

325 S. Main Street
Thursday – Saturday, 8:00 am – 4:00 p.m.

Sad day. Grapevine’s last farmers market weekend is upon us. This is your last chance to get fresh goods from them until they reopen in April. This weekend they will have a buy one, get one free deal on pumpkins, fall decorations, and winter squash. There’s also going to be tons of other sales to celebrate their final weekend of 2013, including their awesome local honey, so you need to be here. You’ll still be able to buy their salsas, jams, jellies and pickled items at Texas Belles and Beaus at 406 South Main Street after the market closes.

St. Michaels Farmers Market:|

8011 Douglas
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Saint Michaels’ new vendor Baby Cakes will be at the market this weekend with handcrafted cake and homemade frosting dipped in chocolate. Y-U-M. Behrnes Pepper Salt will be back with cayenne, jalapeno, and chipotle pepper salt, and Picklelicious Pickles with mango relish and chicken fried pickles. Lucido’s Pasta will have their basil garlic angel hair, garlic linguine, black pepper linguine, and crab and sausage ravioli. Rockwall Soap Co. has their natural handcrafted soaps for purchase. Just Pie will have their berry custard, pumpkin, and apple pies. Be sure to stop by!
