The Anvil Pub, in Deep Ellum, is known for three things: its punk-rock attitude, the funny messages scrawled on its chalkboard street sign, and a Sunday tradition called F— Brunch (except they don’t bother with the dashes because dashes aren’t very punk rock). The FB menu features four insane drinks that obviate the need to order actual food: a sangria, a mimosa, a screwdriver, and a Bloody Mary. For the sake of space, let’s focus on the latter. Loc Holman, bartender and drink inventor, serves his whopping creation in a 32-ounce mason jar. It’s a double Bloody Mary topped with anything and everything you can find on a usual brunch plate, plus more. Each week, he chooses different meats (a Slim Jim, maybe, or sausage) and cheeses (Fontina, Gruyère) to make his Frankensteinian concoction unique. Then come the following: bacon-and-cheddar cheese slider, blue cheese-stuffed olive, shrimp, cherry tomato, okra, miniature pickle, celery, asparagus, pickled green bean, Brussels sprout, and pearl onion. He includes the vegetables to make it healthier. “It’s basically a meal that’ll get you through for a little while,” he says. It also comes with a half-pint of beer. Who needs a silly plate when you have a Bloody Mary with a slider and salad on it for $20? Eff brunch, indeed.
