Food News and No Booze (6/27/13)

|

FrontRow‘s Christopher Mosley finally writes about his dinner with Twin Shadow at The Grape. It only took him almost a full year. Yes, I’m still grumbling about the fact that Mosley didn’t do a SideDish post about it last September, but anyone who moves at a glacial pace (like a certain music contributor) deserves a non shout-out shout-out. Despite this, I’m still a fan of his writing. Always have been. You can read about Mosley’s experience at The Grape here.

Everyone – including pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk – has kicked Paula Deen to the curb for using racial slurs, except for MetroCooking (the food trade show company based in D.C.). Teresa Gubbins on CultureMap writes that the show – which travels to D.C., Houston, and Dallas – will keep the former Food Network star as a presenter. From the front page of MetroCooking Dallas’ website comes this statement:

Paula Deen ha been a friend of The Metropolitan Cooking & Entertainment Show for many years. She has apologized and we are taking her apology at her word and moving forward accordingly. MetroCooking does not condone or believe in the use of derogatory slurs by anyone. This is a nation of forgiveness and second chances. In that spirit we intend to go forward with MetroCooking shows in Houston, Dallas, and Washington, DC as planned with Paula as a presenter. At this time we have no plans to do otherwise.

Some things just don’t make sense.
