Food News and Booze: Nazca Kitchen, Outpost Tavern, and World of Beer Open in Dallas

It’s never slow in the restaurant world, is it? Nope. No wonder Santa is always chubby year-round. I don’t know how that makes any sense logically, but it does. In my head, at least.

Craig Collins, a longtime majority owner of Red Hot & Blue, is bringing South American comfort food to northeast Dallas. Entrees include a fish ceviche (made-to-order with red onions jicama, and cucumber) and an Argentinian-style hangar steak served with Yukon gold mashed potatoes. The interior of Collins’ Nazca Kitchen promises to be a stunner. He hired Hatsumi Kuzuu (whose recent work includes Matt McCallister’s FT33) to design the inside of his restaurant.

Check out the rest of the menu here. It offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.

2. Outpost American Tavern

Remember when CampO Modern Bistro closed in September, and the owners wanted to turn it into something, well, more approachable? John Paul Valverde and his partner-in-crime, Miguel Vicéns, are jumping onto the latest craft beer craze, and it looks like they’ve opened a restaurant with good drinking options. Oak Cliff beer, cocktails, sandwiches, and some entrees like beef stroganoff. But the boys are keeping their newest project strictly casual. No more of that chef-driven food.

3. World of Beer

Great. Those lucky college kids over at SMU have even more of a reason not to study and make their parents proud with straight A’s. World of Beer has opened on SMU Boulevard with bratwurst and big screen TVs.

Apparently, there’s a whole wall of taps and a crazy amount of good beer inside this beer cave. Those SMU kids are so, so spoiled. Even though this place is open right now, the grand opening isn’t happening until January 26, 2013.
