By Carol Shih |

Every year on SideDish, we like to devote our energy to supporting small local food businesses here in DFW. For the twelve days, we’ll be highlighting jams, jellies, pies, classes, wines, coffees, teas, and basically any food product made locally on Dallas (or close to it) soil. Today is Baked Goods Day. If you’ve got a product that you want included, send me an email with your information and a picture. This list will often be updated, so don’t fret about deadlines. We’re here to serve you guys.

Oh* Brownie

I can’t tell you how obsessed I am with Iris McCallister’s Oh* Brownie line. I have a love affair wtih the PB & Jealousy, which is made from gourmet peanut butter minus the preservatives. It’s rich, gooey, chocolatey, and all things that are good in this world. Mrs. McCallister currently has this deal going on: special all week, get a holiday gift box of 12 mini brownies for $25.00. (Shipping and delivery not included with the discount.)

You  can also drop by Bolsa Mercado and pick these up brownies up individually. They’re right near the cash register, and, like I already said on ShopTalk, they make perfect stocking stuffers.

Wackym’s Cookies

Mr. Sweet P. Wackym writes: “We do a Snicker Doodle as our holiday special flavor, a butter cookie with a sweet, cinnamon and spicy finish. If you are a fan of our Chocolate Snicker Doodle, you’ll love these. Also as a limited run this month we have, Walnut Spice, a pumped up spice cookie with an extra pop of heat. Central Market has the Snicker Doodle, and the other favorites, but at the local markets and smaller stores we have all 12 of the flavors we are making this time of the year.

The round tubs are around $6.50, the gift tins $18.00; we also offer assembled gifts ranging from the $36.00 sampler box of treats, which holds 56 cookies in 7 flavors to the Bountiful Goodness basket for $95.00 for the luxury cookie, chocolate and nut mix lover. It has 9 flavors in assorted tins.”

Kathy’s Scrumptious Treats

Kathy Zibilich, a lawyer-turned baker, came to our office yesterday armed with a box of her scrumptious treats. I hate to use the word ‘scrumptious,’ but it’s really the only way to describe her chocolate barks. They are divine and so terribly addicting, which really isn’t helping me any. But whatever. I like them. Her orange spice pecans aren’t over-candied, and they’ve got a delightful zest to them.
