There is something about crisp morning air. We can finally walk outside for lunch without the threat of a heat stroke, and extra clothing layers mean we can get away with that second (of third) piece of casserole. Luckily, the weather finally seems to be cooling off a bit and I could not be more excited. I think the perfect way to spend a weekend is with good food, and the plethora of farmers markets in the surrounding area has us seriously spoiled with fresh produce. I have been craving my mom’s chicken potpie, so I think this is finally the weekend to get some fresh vegetables and try my hand at it. Anyone have any great fall recipes we need to know? I’m always up for trying something new, and the excitement of a new season has me craving heartier dishes and seasonal ingredients.
Celebration Farmers Market: There are only three Saturdays left in Celebration’s regular season, so get over there while you can. There is a transition in the air, so you can expect a combination of late summer and early fall produce ranging from tomatoes and peppers to eggplant and winter squash. Additionally, Jerry from Joy Farm will be back with his fall harvest. Swing by if you’re in the market for yellow currants, Green Fire mustard greens, crisp kale, or Texas Olive Ranch oils and vinegars.
Other upcoming events include a Thanksgiving Market on November 17 and a Christmas Market on December 15.

Coppell Farmers Market: Recent rains and cooler temperatures have led to a longer, stronger summer harvest overlapped with what’s in season for fall. Apples, pears, grapes, and pomegranates were on hand last week so keep a look out for your favorites. Apple pie, anyone? Meanwhile, fall is making an appearance through acorn squash, green beans, tomatoes and onions.
David Blair, manager of Hard Eight BBQ, will also make an appearance as he presents this month’s Market to Kitchen chef demo at 10 a.m. Blair will feature vegetable and fruit kebabs using what’s in season. Chairs, water, and coffee will be provided.

Cowtown Farmers Market: In addition to the normal selection of local vendors this weekend, Cowtown Farmers Market is gearing up for their Fall Harvest Festival on October 20. Events include live music, cooking seasonal produce demonstrations, T-shirt sales, The Good Karma Kitchen food truck, and a collection drive for the Tarrant Area Food Bank.

Fairview Farms Marketplace: Winter squash will be making an appearance in the next few weeks so flip through your recipe box and find that perfect casserole you’ve been longing after. Additionally, pumpkins from West Texas will be available. Roasted pumpkin seeds are one of my favorites to add to a seasonal salad, so be sure to eat some for me!

Frisco Farmers Market: Frisco Farmers Market is mixing it up this week with an eclectic car display from eVgo. Watermelon will also be an option for you to enjoy on these remaining porch days the weather is permitting.

McKinney Farmers Market at Chestnut Square: The first annual Spirit of the Cowboy will be taking place in Chestnut Square this weekend. The two-day event, which aims to honor and preserve the culture of the cowboy way of life, will include music, dancing, and vendors selling their normal selection of items. David Hartwig and the Friends of Skidboot will be on hand to satisfy all musical cravings.

St. Michaels Farmers Market: Saint Michael’s is looking for farmers and growers who practice natural, sustainable, organic farming. The products must come from within a 150-mile radius of Dallas County to assure freshness. Special foods such as baked goods, tamales, cheeses, eggs, local honey, meats, and pastas are also available. All vendors must grow, produce, or make at least 60% of what they sell at the Saint Michael’s Farmers Market.
