Casey Thompson Speaks Out About Top Chef

Casey speaks! And she doesn’t sound happy, folks. I asked her to comment on last night’s episode, and here’s what she had to say:

Carla was not prepared and in over her head. The show did not talk about how the first course (crab) took her half of the friggin’ cooking time that day, I was left to work the rest of HER dishes.

She also did not have a plan. The ONLY thing she had in mind was a cheese course! I would NEVER do a cheese course. And where in the hell did french come from!? She is not even classically trained! It (the show) didn’t talk about how I worked on a sauce for 2 days and Carla forgot to put it on the plate… It didn’t show how the 2nd course (fish) was MINE. It didn’t show how she took the sous vide idea and decided to GRILL it last minute causing it to be tough… And it didn’t show how she WANTED to do the souffles which she does not even know how to make! That was HER food, because it certainly was me asking her how she wanted to do this and that while she was busy picking crab the entire time and making a souffle that didn’t rise!

I am done with TC. I did not influence her. She has NO ideas of her own, oh, except a cheese course.

Wow.

  • Finally this season gets good! Just awesome!

  • N

    Even if you remove the editing to make Casey look like the saboteur to Carla, the editing did show how Carla messed up. Not turning down an oven? Please, even I know to check an oven temp before I ever put anything inside. No matter what the rush is, checking oven temp is one of the fundamentals. Sous vide the beef? Carla could have said no and stuck to grilling it.

    Top Chef editing…making good people look bad. I wonder Casey has any actual commitments to appear again in the future. If not, she ought to use Tom’s face as a dart board target. Or ask Stefan for a voodoo doll with the editing team as her target.

  • JB

    But this is standard faire for “Reality” shows and why reality has nothing to do with it. The format is to film EVERYTHING and THEN come up with a story and edit it accordingly. Its cheap. Producers don’t have to hire writers, actors, or anyone else who knows what they are doing except an editior. I don’t blame Chef Thompson. I’m going back to watching ‘Lost’ or ‘Heros’, at least I know the story is fiction.

  • TDiMicco

    Casey is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE! This is why I couldn’t stand her during her season and this is why I can’t stand her now. Have some tact. Have some grace. Casey is bitter, talentless, and completely unlikable.

  • The Burger King

    There’s always two sides to every story, now we have Casey’s.

  • Jimmy

    TDiMicco- you are missing the entire point of her as well as many other peoples comments. It’s called editing. You clearly do not know Casey on a personal level. If you did you would realize that your statements are ignorant. Casey has LOADS of tact, grace and class. Think before you speak man.

  • Really?

    Wow. Such venom. Look, we’re all sorry that you lost your season and that it looks like you contributed to another loss, but show some class and/or grace and dignity. It’s obvious that Carla felt bad enough about losing so badly, but to go off and bad mouth her like that to save face is just ridiculous. I’m sorry the editing isn’t to your liking, princess, but this may be why everyone is so down on you today.

    If you have a problem with Top Chef, fine, but tearing down someone who is already so low is just plain mean.

  • Beth Lemmon

    We miss you Casey! It was a sad day for Dallas when you moved. I haven’t eaten since then.

  • Frankly Speaking

    This last episode was terrible and Carla should have taped Casey’s mouth shut from the get go. Viewers would have been more entertained by watching Casey try and attempt to cut an onion in a proper brunoise. Which is well known throughout the industry by now as something that she can’t do.

    How is your branding and apron sales going Casey? What a joke. You haven’t accomplished anything except learning how to play to a camera.

    Julia Child must be literally rolling over in her grave watching the meteoric rise of an “icon” the likes of you.

  • Glad to hear Casey’s side of this. Too many people are blaming her for last night, but it was pretty obvious that even Carla herself knew she dropped the ball. Casey was only the sous chef, after all…

  • Really?

    Also, I am not saying that this may not all be completely true (although I doubt it was THAT bad) – there’s just a better way to get your point across and your side heard without acting like a mean girl.

  • Jessica

    Wow, if this was really written by Casey then I am not a fan now. That’s awful. The show didn’t make you look bad it just made it look like she took some of your suggested ideas that she was not comfortable with. Why would you write something like this??

  • Stu

    Being a failure on a reality show does not make Casey any less hot.

  • Robert

    Yes Casey is pretty and pretty clueless.

    Why would she trash Carla like that? Because that is her character.

  • szc

    I REALLY REALL like Casey personally and as a chef but I agree with the Jessica and Really? – throwing someone under the bus like that is just plain immature and completely unprofessional.

  • Nutjob

    Wow… that is a totally classless response by Casey. Carla is going out of her way to publicly tell people not to blame Casey, and what does the tactless Ms. Thompson do? Make Carla sound completely incompetent. I’m glad she’s done with TC, because then I won’t have to see her again.

  • nelson munz

    ha ha!

  • Jill

    Wow Casey…jealous much? Sounds like someone needs to get over themselves to me.

  • kYle

    On the next Ricki Lake: Chefs who diss chefs and the foodies who love them.

  • Karen

    I will still come try out your food in Napa Casey! Love Napa

  • Kari

    Did Carla do herself in by making things she didn’t know how? Yes. Did Casey that contribute to that loss by suggesting those things and insisting despite Carla’s lack of knowledge? Yes. Did Carla realize that she messed up and should have cooked her own food? Yes. Was Carla asked point blank at judge’s table whose ideas they were and answered honestly? Yes. So was this bitchy tirade from Casey, on a show that wasn’t hers to win or lose appropriate? NO

  • David

    Just classless. All of the articles popping up today have Carla taking full responsibility (going so far as to tell people not to blame Casey), and Casey comes out with such venom. If one were to read between the lines, it would appear Casey is being premptively defensive because she feared Carla would trash her. I think there’s more to it that Carla just has too much class to inject postmortem. It shows who has the integrity and who doesn’t.

    I don’t believe Casey for one minute, and this sniping confirms my belief. She’s done with Top Chef? I’m sure they are done with her! Shame on Casey!

  • Captain Obvious

    Captain Obvious says:

    -Howie made Casey’s BEST dish in the season 3 finale.

    -Casey was a disaster in her season’s finale.

    -Poor way to represent herself by trashing Carla.

  • CallingBS

    Casey is a piece of work! Carla is trained. What the hell is Casey talking about???

    Casey selectively tells the story. Carla made the sauces. Caasey also doesn’t reveal that her work on the fish was such as mess (loads of scales and bones) that Carla had to stop what she was doing and attempt to fix that. That’s why the sauce didn’t make the plate.

    Carla WANTED to do the cheese tart and simply sear the mean (not sous vide), but Casey thought Carla needed to “elevate” her food.

    Shame on Carla for not sticking to her own ideas. Casey is full of sh*t and it shows. Devoid of tact or class.

  • Carla Has Class

    Carla clearly demonstrated that she is the epitome of class. Thank you Carla.

    Casey embarrassed herself and her would be fans by proving she has none by her awful comments aimed at Carla. Casey finally showed her true colors. Truly shameful remarks by you Casey and you owe Carla an apology.

  • Dawn

    Umm…bitter much? I’m proud of Carla for going as far as she did…you can say anything you want about the editing…because what we don’t see…you can make it into ANYTHING…as she just did.

  • Pamelita

    Wow. wow. wow. Casey certainly has a case of sour grapes and has just revealed her inner tantrum-throwing child. Get over yourself girl!

  • Unbelievable!

    Wow. Way to throw someone under the bus. Carla was fully – and I mean FULLY – aware she screwed up. By listening to Casey, she screwed up.

    This just sounds like bitter jealousy on Casey’s part.

    I’m glad she’s done with TC – because viewers don’t want to have to see or hear her again. Good luck in what you end up doing, Casey – you’re going to need it after this venom you’ve just spewed, when Carla has been saying to NOT blame you. Way to go. True colors come out, don’t they? Yours are blacker than black.

  • David

    Meanwhile, Carla says:

    Exhibit A:

    “Carla! What happened with Casey???

    I really enjoyed working with Casey. I actually really wanted to work with her,I thought that we would connect. And I did not consider that it was Casey’s fault. You know, at that point we had all just given so much, and I was so emotionally exhausted. Going into that second finale, after winning the first one, I was on a high, but then we’re cooking again the next day. So when they said we had help, I was like, oh my god, I get help, and I just gave her too much power. She didn’t take it from me, I gave it to her. In hindsight, I would have made totally different decisions. I never sold myself on that souflee, and if we had done a better cut of meat, seared it — it would have been really great with my sauce, which was so delicious. I hope people don’t blame Casey. I known that the blogs have kind of been blowing up saying that she ruined it for me. No she did not. ”

    Exhibit B:

    “I would love to give [Casey Thompson] a call to see how she’s taking all of this. I hate for her to get the brunt of it. If I could get on a loudspeaker and tell the whole world and everyone who watches the show, I would tell them, ‘Don’t blame Casey.’ I take full responsibility.”

    I think we can all the difference between the two. Carla doesn’t get into a tit-for-tat

  • darla

    carla is a sweet woman, of course she wasn’t going to badmouth casey!
    casey: if you are back on topchef as a sous-chef, you will have to learn to take the back seat and shut up. it is not your ass on the line – unless you out it there. it seems that casey wanted to re-do her own finale through carla, failed at that, and now blaming her. i didn’t mind casey before and i was happy that she was the sous-chef for carla (hoping for some girlpower in the midst of what seemed to be a testestore infected peeing contest between stefan and hosea) but casey shows she has no interest in anything but herself looking good!

  • Was a Casey fan, but now it’s Team Carla. ’nuff said.

  • MikeR

    Casey is lucky she has large breasts.

  • NK

    It was evident throughout the season that Carla was well out of her league. She would be good on some homely housewives challenge on the Food Network but I think she lucked her way to the finale on Top Chef.

  • presumptuous insect

    A number of the claims that Casey makes here are demonstrably false.

  • james

    BOOO Casey. First things first, Casey did suggest cooking the meat sous vide. She also suggest the souffle AFTER Carla said what she intended to do. Just listen, casey, and follow. Don’t try to interject your own ideas onto her menu. Casey was also laughing at one point after Carla came back from delivering a souffle-less plate. Then she gets all catty here irt Carla saying she can’t cook and has no ideas. Casey is trash.

  • sage

    Open mouth. Insert foot. Shoot own foot first.

    You lost your season, Casey. Now go away.

  • Casey Thompson is like school on a Saturday – NO CLASS.

  • dartagnan

    Was actually a fan of Casey… until she did this while Carla has been a class act all along. The claims on Carla’s inability to cook is completely false as well, as many of the comments here have pointed to, as well as what last night’s finale. I’m sure Casey would disagree with me, but it’s nice to know Marcus Samuelsson, Lidia Bastianich, Jacques Pepin and the rest of the judge would agree with me.

  • Russian

    Casey is frustrated with a show that is fixed. Sloppy chefs make it to the finale and the show is edited to mislead the viewer. So what if Casey is a little upset, you guys are way too hard on her. Carla was sweet, but clearly she is not refined and had no business being there.

  • Pam

    I think what Casey said in her interview is awful. I did not think badly of Casey after watching the show or her season, but her comments in this article are truly tasteless.

  • Casey Who?

    Now go back to California you classless piece of talentless chef D-lister trash and do something proactive like dating Andy Dick while you dream of Pauly Shore.

  • Colleen

    I think Casey could have told her side in a much less vicious way, even if some of what she says is true or at least true from her point of view. I am a teacher. I have found had to write narratives about students about whom … oh, what I *could* have said… but I found ways to be honest, but tactful. That is what Casey should have done here. “I am sorry the elves edited it to look like… I can see why viewers might think… But really, it was just that the crab challenge that got thrown in threw the previous day’s plans up in the air… I made suggestions, not to pressure Carla, but because I thought that was what she wanted me to do, or because I thought, well, she can take them or leave them, but I really wanted to contribute if I could…” Such venom. Especially when Carla has not blamed Casey at all and has publicly asked bloggers and such to not blame Casey.

    That old saying… “if you can’t say something nice…” or in a nice way, then…

  • CL

    Didn’t Carla say she went to culinary school? Doesn’t that mean “classically trained?” As opposed to classless. Casey, you should have kept your mouth shut. Twit.

  • Unbelievable!

    Russian said (2:07PM) “Carla was sweet, but clearly she is not refined and had no business being there.”
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    When you have people like Eric Ripert and Jacques Pepin saying how wonderful your food is, you are a DAMN good chef and totally deserve to be there. Carla’s food was WAY more refined than the snot-ass whiny Hosea! I’d definitely go to a restaurant where Carla was cooking. The idiots in Boulder can keep Hosea (he who can’t cook fish, it seems, to save his life and squeaked by in most of the challenges).
  • Krissy
    HOW DARE YOU. THIS IS CARLA’S SEASON, NOT YOURS. Let me make it clearer for you:
    THIS IS CARLA’S SEASON.
    SCREW YOU IF YOU DON’T WANT A CHEESE COURSE! If she wanted a cheese course, LET HER DO A CHEESE COURSE. If you didn’t want to do TC, you could have denied the offer!!!
  • I had a feeling there was another side to the Carla/Casey story but methinks Casey could learn something from Carla in terms of being a classy, positive human being.
    And Carla was classically trained. That’s where the French came from.
  • ONTD
    this bitch is annoying. CARLA 4 EVA
  • BigDaddyMN
    Classically trained or not, if Carla was as scatterbrained as Casey said she was, I very much doubt she showed off any real skills. I think what Casey is pissed off about (and rightfully so) is the perception that a) she was force-feeding Carla ideas when in reality no ideas were coming from Carla and b) that her ideas caused Carla to fail…Casey isn’t the one who tried to grill a sous vide protein and Casey isn’t the one who screwed up the souffles. There have been way too many two worded posts with the second word being Casey that I can understand her anger and wanting to set the record straight.
  • ONTD
    also: stefan should have won. hosea is just a fat blob of frat boy shit who can’t cook fish but works in a seafood restaurant.
  • Casey is as classless as her cooking is tasteless.
  • miss manners
    well you’re certainly just oooooooozing with classy-ness, aren’t you ms. thompson?
  • Sasha
    ……………….bitter much?
  • christian bale
    ITS FUCKING DISTRACTING
  • HootieHoo
    Casey, you’ve just unleashed a sh**storm upon the internet, directed at you. Enjoy.
    TEAM CARLA
  • James Robb
    @Casey Who: laughed out loud at the mental picture of Casey as Mrs. Pauly Shore. They’re perfect for each other. God that’s funny!
  • Lil’ Cauliflower
    If Casey thought Carla was such a lousy chef and so unprepared, then why would she want to help her win the show, and thus enable a chef that is inferior to have a title she she herself was unable to win?
    Any way you look at it Casey does not come off well … and I really can’t believe she felt the need to claim credit for the fish dish. No class. Good riddance. California can have her and her and her gimmicky food.
  • BigDaddyMN
    Hey, how about this…Carla, for as classy as you say she is…choked. Guess she and Casey are similar chefs after all.
  • Catharine
    As a personal friend of Casey’s and one who has actually spoken with her today (which I can guarantee that none of you have) this has to stop. What Casey wrote went too far-she knows that. But what all of you are doing is just stooping down to her level by calling her names and trashing her when you don’t even know the whole story. No one knows the whole story, you only know what a guy in an editing room wants you to know.
    Casey is one of the most honest and genuine people I know and it gets her in trouble sometimes because she just tells it like it is. But Casey will move heaven and earth to help her friends, I know because she did it many times for me. If you don’t like her, fine, if you hope she never cooks again, fine, but get some class and stop bashing someone you don’t even know.
    The fact that people are getting this upset and outraged by this is almost humorous!
  • Josh
    Casey was the Sous chef – she should have done what she was told not open her mouth and change the menu – much like Richard did with Hosea and even Marcel did with Stefan. Yes Carla messed up and she’s taken responsibility for her actions but for Casey to say this is completely unprofessional and I am glad she won’t be on TC anymore!
  • DallasChocolateLover
    I think alot of people have lost sight of what this is and are taking it way to seriously. Including a number of the chefs. IT’S A COOKING SHOW!!!!
  • David
    @ BidDaddyMN. I agree if she were setting the record straight accurately, but she’s not. I doubt we’ll get to square “both sides” because Carla has already shouldered the responsibility, and I doubt she will/would engage in a flame throwing contest. That just doesn’t seem to be her style. To the end, you’re basing our responses solely on Casey’s take. I won’t do it, and what’s pretty apparent to me is that Casey is embarrassed and doesn’t want to shoulder any responsibility for her role in the last two, failed, courses.
    Am I disappointed that Carla didn’t do her best? You bet? I unquestionably believe she’s a adept, skilled chef with personality and integrity to spare. I’m not left with that same impression of Casey.
  • ontd
    hey catharine, humorous? say what? SHES A BITTER LOSERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, tell her that, personally. love, ontd.
  • carla hall
    HOOTIE HOO!
  • PEOPLE–calm down. We are going to have to get our own show if you don’t. You can’t swear and use ugly words so quit getting bent out of shape if we take down vulgar comments.
    The Management
    your “friend” should have shown some tact. CARLA did NOT do the editing. Carla has been completely gracious where Casey was concerned and there was NO REASON for your ‘friend’ to ooze with so much venom. “Honest” and “Uncouth” are not synonomous. I’m sorry to say that your “friend” is the latter.
  • Summer
    Wow. Casey, I loved you in your season and thought of you as a kind and decent person. I guess I wasn’t the only one you fooled.
    To lash out at Carla in this petty, mean-spirited, factually inaccurate way because you don’t like your edit, or the viewers’ reactions, is about as unappetizing a thing as I can imagine. How ironic that in your worry that the edit was going to trash your reputation, you’ve trashed your own reputation more than any TC episode ever good.
    Disgusting.
  • THIS is exactly why bringing back losers from previous seasons was not a good idea. Fellow cheftestants would have been a much better way to go. At least their fellow cheftestants would know their cooking style and not try to insert their own “specialties” into the final dishes. Thanks Bravo, for going with pointless added drama instead of what is best for the show.
    Casey, your opinions are not needed nor heeded…STFD and STFU.
  • ONTD
    poisonous JUDAS!!
    ontd is watching you closely!!
  • Unbelievable!
    To Catherine (2:41pm) – you say “What Casey wrote went too far-she knows that. ”
    ~~~~~~~~
    Guess what – Casey’s been on this show before. She knows what editing can do. She knows that what you say on the Internet stays there. Forever. For her not to have had the forethought to realize that what she was writing to an ONLINE MAGAZINE SITE was going to be published just shows how thoughtless she has turned out to be.

    Your defense of her is fine. But when she writes something like what she’s written without THINKING but with KNOWING that it’s going to probably be published? Sorry. You get what you deserve. This is why they say in business “Click save on that potentially nasty reply Email you just wrote before you send it, and read it later. You’ll probably not want to send it and will erase it and reword it.” If she didn’t have the smarts to do that with her response to Sidedish.com, that’s her problem now, isn’t it?

  • Cory

    hahahah This is hilarious.

    The finale, and pretty much this entire season, was a joke.

    The fact that people actually think an untrained, borderline retarded idiot like Carla actually had a chance to win is ridiculous.

  • Keith

    Come on, Casey. You choked in the finals, so just get over yourself. I also ate at Shensei in Dallas and thought it was mediocre, at best. Saw you rush through the dining room that night, ignoring many fans and customers. You think too highly of yourself and this sort of response makes me think even less of you as a chef. Carla proved herself time and time again during the competition. Certainly editing played a role in the show last night, but I’ve experienced you and your food first hand and don’t feel you have room to criticize. Sorry.

  • hootie

    but ugly words are saucy!

  • hoo

    stfu cory

  • BigJaquesFan

    Anyone who can make my man Jaques Pepin smile like he did eating his “last supper” as prepared by Carla is A-OK in my book. You are a classless clown, Casey. P.S. Lay off the spray tan.

  • Layna Taylor

    So now we have Casey’s story. I’m listening to an interview with Carla on Talk of the Nation on NPR. Thanks to the editing monkeys, we will never know what really happened, but the truth tracks closer to Carla’s, I bet.

  • Catharine

    You know, they said hind sight is 20/20 Casey knows that and I do now too. I should have not even gotten involved in this childish battle. She’s reading, she knows what’s being said but there is nothing she can do, so carry on.

  • Scarlett O’Hara

    Carla mentioned that she was clasically trained. She made the mistake of listening to someone that ended up in 3rd place and never should have made it that far.Carla has been nothing but gracious and does not deserve this. Your jealousy is showing.
    People talk about former contestants that are totally despised and I think you are probably the new number one.

  • Robert

    Catharine: Casey will move heaven and earth to help her friends? Are you kidding? And you wonder why there are so many people upset right now? Are you serious?

    Hope I never ever have a “friend” like Casey who throws me under the bus like that. Just wait until she throws YOU under the bus like she did Carla.

    See how “humorous” that feels.

  • Dallas Hottie

    @ Catherine: Casey is the one who opened her unCLASSICALLY trained mouth, but we’re being childish? Please go sit down somewhere. I’m so tired of the “Whoa is me” attitude people have when they reap the CONSEQUENCES of THEIR ACTIONS.

  • Chris Brown

    Bitch, you’re not even worth hitting.

  • Hosea’s Goatee

    Even I’m classier than this response.

  • Krissy

    Oh yeah, one more thing Casey. When you can get complemented by Jaques Pepin, then you can start trash talking. Until then, just be quiet.

  • BigDaddyMN

    Can we all agree that this season’s finalists couldn’t hold an apron to previous years’ finalists? Even the most polished of the group, Stephan would’ve ended up in last place of any of the finalists from the previous few seasons!

  • Positively tasteless. Next time use the good judgement.

  • TCFan

    Casey says “..I was left to work with the rest of HER dishes…”

    Perhaps Her Highness needs a reminder on what it is a SOUS CHEF does?! I am disgusted with her statement.

  • Shelly

    Carla has more class in her little toe than Casey will ever have. And I’ll take Jacques Pepin’s opinion on Carla’s cooking over hers any day.

  • Hootie Hoo

    Jealous much? If she thought she was viewed negatively before this, this will make it even worse. Glad she opened her big fat hateful mouth.

    Carla has more class than you will ever have. So bitter and laughable.

  • Catharine

    Alright, let’s crucify her-tie her up and beat her with chains and then set her on fire. Will that make everyone happy?

  • This was the worst Top Chef in history. The chef’s were just not good. When you have to cut to someone cheating on their respective girlfriend/boyfriend you’ve got a loser season.

    Let’s be honest. Carla was not a high calibur chef, none of them were.

    Top Chef you need to stop worrying about making a dramatic season, and get back down to picking good chef’s. This was a poor showing to say the least.

  • Dartower

    “As a personal friend of Casey’s and one who has actually spoken with her today (which I can guarantee that none of you have) this has to stop. What Casey wrote went too far-she knows that. To believe Casey we have to believe Carla is a talentless hack who completely duped those top chefs when cooking on her own and all the praise for Carla’s cooking was just editing.

  • Krissy

    LOOK AT THIS CLASS CARLA HAS. QUEEN OF CLASS.

    I really enjoyed working with Casey. I actually really wanted to work with her, I thought that we would connect. And I did not consider that it was Casey’s fault. You know, at that point we had all just given so much, and I was so emotionally exhausted. So when they said we had help, I was like, oh my god, I get help, and I just gave her too much power. She didn’t take it from me, I gave it to her.
    I would love to give [Casey] a call to see how she’s taking all of this. I hate for her to get the brunt of it. If I could get on a loudspeaker and tell the whole world and everyone who watches the show, I would tell them, ‘Don’t blame Casey.’ I take full responsibility.

    So @ Catharine, I hope you and Casey see this and Casey realizes that she went way off the deep end.

  • scarletfan

    Funny, Carla’s bio says Carla is the chef and owner of Alchemy Caterers in Washington, D.C. Her food balances the heart and soul of the South and the refinement of her classic French training.

    Casey should have taken a cue from Carla and either acted like a decent human being or kept her mouth shut.

  • kiarra

    casey reminded me how I hated her on season 3, yet again anothe bitter chef who has no class whatsoever. cunt.

  • JG

    Can’t believe all the comments. Go Casey!

    I thought you were leaving? Stop being so dramatic. It amazes me how women always want to play the victim. You can’t have it both ways, Sweetie. If Casey’s tits are big enough to lactate such venom, they should be big enough for her to reap the consequences of said venom. This is LIFE, Sweetie. You reap what you freaking sow.

    @ Chopped…Completely agree. I’m willing to give TC a pass for this crummy season but if next season doesn’t show some improvement, I will definitely find something else to do on Wednesday nights.

  • Summer

    Catherine–do yourself, and your classless friend Casey, a favor and stop posting.

    The damage to her reputation is done. And self-inflicted, which makes all the more pathetic.

  • Hootie Hoo

    Quote: Alright, let’s crucify her-tie her up and beat her with chains and then set her on fire. Will that make everyone happy?

    –It’s a good start.

  • bodie

    as much as i looove carla, and as much as i was cussing casey out last night (and on twitter), i have to admit that it was carla who dropped the ball ultimately.

    like tom said, she should have stayed true to what got her to the end in the first place. she should have recognized that it was love that got her there and it was love that would have led her to the title. not some nasty scorpion woman.

    and with that being said, casey is basically trash. i couldn’t believe what i was just reading. and carla is such an amazing person who owned up to her mistakes.

    Carla: A true winner who lost Top Chef.
    Casey: Just a sad talentless, tactless loser.

  • sage

    @Alright, let’s crucify her-tie her up and beat her with chains and then set her on fire

    Hey! It worked for Casey! If her issue was with editing then all the worse that she attacked Carla personally with such ridiculous untruths. Carla was a cheftestant. NOT an editor.

    Now she’s sending remorse via a friend? A grown woman should have the filter fully realized years ago, and NEVER put the thoughts *out there* in the first place.

    Seriously, I think she should continue on with Bravo. Head downstate a ways. She’ll fit perfectly in The Real Hosebags of Orange County.

    What the hell? In the end we watch Top Chef for entertainment. I’m currently highly entertained at the visual of Casey’s spiffy Apple Computer Prize spontaneously combusting as she hit Send on that garbage. Have a nice life, Casey. Thanks for the memories. 🙂

  • john

    Casey is a true classless women – sorta like the Housewives of OC classless. She was a sous chef. She should have come in and asked ‘chef what do I do’ and done as told – she was wrong in her ideas and they failed. Carla on the other hand should have stood up for herself and told Casey to STFU and do as told. Carla is a great cook all around. She IS FRENCH TRAINED – dumb bitch doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Casey – there is a reason you LOST – because you SUCK.

    Team Big Bird will be back. Carla you are the best.

  • stephanie

    its a piece of cake to bake a pretty cake!

  • Jankity

    None of this surprises me. It was her lack of class that got her run out of Dallas.

  • Natsu

    @ Catharine

    “Casey is one of the most honest and genuine people I know”

    Is “honest” and “genuine” the new way of saying “tactless” and “classless”? Your friend Casey’s rant was bitter, ridiculous, and unprofessional. Plain and simple.

    Why don’t you tell your friend to “get some class” before she goes spouting off at the mouth again? I find it almost humorous that you’re actually defending her.

  • ExCaseyFan

    Wow Krissy, that quote from Carla just floored me. ARE YOU READING THIS CASEY??????

    The actual TC finale contestant (Carla) is concerned that her sous-chef unnecessarily will receive the brunt of the blame, while the slimy sous-chef (Casey) who is no longer on the show is throwing a very sweet woman under the bus to save what little reputation she has left.

    I have lost all respect for Casey. Fortunately, with her talent (or lack thereof) no one will ever hear from her again.

  • Spiky Pole

    Someone pull me out!

    Catharine @ February 26th, 2009 at 2:53 pm

    You know, they said hind sight is 20/20 Casey knows that and I do now too. I should have not even gotten involved in this childish battle. She’s reading, she knows what’s being said but there is nothing she can do, so carry on

    ==================================

    Catherine, I’m BEGGING you. The comments that are signed Carla Hall or Hootie Hoo? — Make SURE Casey understands those are Magical Pranksters! ‘K? Better yet. Go unplug her internet access and take her computer into custody. 🙂

  • Bottom Chef

    This is what happens when someone who’s not used to following is supposed to help someone who is incapable of leading. Whether sabotage or not, Carla is not capable of leading a team, which means while she may be a good cook, she’s probably never going to be a chef.

  • Robert

    Catherine: No need for ropes or chains. Every one of these blog posts will be forever “tattooed” on Casey’s face from this day forward. That is punishment enough.

    She should have run her comments about Carla by one of the execs who is handling her “branding” first before showing her true colors. She and Rocco DiSpirito both.

    Ever see a career crater as fast as his?

  • Gastronome

    Ooooh, venom stew: throw in one venomous comment and season liberally with a hundred venomous comments about how classless the venomous commentator is. Serve to the hypocrite at table number one. And this is the restaurant serving some up so come get you some.

  • ExCaseyFan

    Bodie,

    You’re absolutely right. Regardless of what happened behind closed doors, Casey does NOT deserve the blame for Carla’s loss. A Top Chef must have her own vision, have confidence in it and take responsibility for everything that happens. The thing is, everyone understood that: Carla knew it; the judges knew it; the overwhelming majority of TC fans knew it.

    So why is Casey talking trash (and obviously ill-informed nonsense at that because Carla is classically trained and won several challenges WITHOUT Casey’s “help”) about a talented and kind woman just to save her ass, when really no one even cares?

    And now that Casey is getting ripped a new bunghole, all her friends are coming out of the woodwork to plead for Ste Casey.

    She whined when she deservedly lost to Hung. She’s whining again when she’s not even an actual contestant on the show this season. Hear that? That’s the world’s tiniest violin playing in the background. Boohoo.

  • TERI TAPP

    It’s one thing to set the record straight so to speak but use some tact doing it. I have always been a big Casey fan and not so much a fan of Carla’s until the last few episodes. Casey could of gotten her point across about the “editing” without being so rude about Carla. Just shows that some people don’t really know how to be interviewed without digging themselves a big hole!

  • NYChef

    I knew there was something about Casey that I didnt like and this just proves it. Even if her statements are true, she could have shown a little class and a little tact. What a sour bitch. I am a “classically” trained chef who used to work in Ripert’s kitchen and let me tell you, if that man was impressed with Carla, that is worth more than a thousand “Top Chef” titles. Screw you Casey. Way to ruin your image.

  • Stephy

    I am so glad Hung kicked Casey’s ass in the finale. Carla IS classically trained and Casey is not and Carla won more challenges and is better chef.

  • stephanie

    get over it casey! you signed up for a reality show, now deal with the consequences that come with it. but don’t attack carla… it makes you look bitter and mean. i liked casey during her season but this has really put me off. if you think the show or carla made you look bad, you’re mistaken. this little rant of yours is what makes you look bad.

  • liz

    I find it hilarious that Casey, who did not go to culinary school, is suddenly trash-talking the training of someone who attended a French culinary school.

    Is it Casey’s fault Carla lost? Of course not. Carla should have stood fast on what she wanted to cook and how to cook it. But based on what the editing monkeys showed us and Casey’s classless comments, it seems that Casey viewed this as another shot for herself at the finale rather than taking a back seat and supporting Carla by calming her nerves rather than taking over. Armchair psychology suggests that Casey feels rather guilty about Carla’s loss, so Casey is being vindictive about the whole thing.

  • I kind of see Casey’s side but some of what she said is contrary to what was shown during Top Chef.

    Basically i saw Carla wanting to do a tart, and Casey pushing for a soufle. You can’t deny that happened.

    And the soue-vie(sp) was clearly Casey’s idea. Carla had no clue, and even Hosea commented about it on the show, so i don’t really get the blame on Carla for that either.

    Both of those were the judges biggest criticisms and both were mainly Casey’s ideas. Editing or not, you can’t pretend Casey didn’t come up with them, with the confidence that they would work.

    I think Casey might have a point that Carla didn’t have a game plan since she seemed tentative right when they started, and wasn’t giving Casey much direction. It seemed the others had more communication with their sous chefs, while Carla was more into doing what she was doing, and not directing Casey. So maybe Casey thought she had to take charge. Carla isn’t the type to be mean or be authorative. I think everyone kind of knew that since she came across as overly nice. So i’m sure there is some truth at least to Casey’s side.

    In the end Casey will be blamed because Carla was this season’s fan favorite. At least Casey’s still the hottest Top Chef to be on the show!

    btw to the people calling Carla’s dishes “unrefined”, i really didn’t see much of an issue with them at all. And i’ll take a chef that can make something taste good, unrefined and all, than someone who is refined but can’t make good tasting food, which seems to be a lot of so called ‘chefs’ judging by TC seasons.

  • Dallas Foodie

    Casey, regardless of any talent she has, is diminishing it with her “mean girl” remarks.

    You know what she should have said? This: “It was a pleasure to work with Carla. I wish it could have been more succesful.”

    If she’d said that, everyone would now be praising her. But nooo, she had to demonstrate her cattiness and sour grapes.

    People were blinded by her looks in her season, and overlooked her passive-aggressive commentary on fellow chefs.

    Classically trained? Casey, we *remember* your Coq au Vin, sans Coq! Oh, but your French grandmother made it that way in Texas? Puhleeze.

    You were an almost-ran, never a top chef.

  • CarlasISill

    Carla’s “unrefined” food impressed Emeril, Wylie Dufresne, and Jacques motherfucking Pepin. I think that’s enough to give her refined french cred.

  • TC Scallop

    Carla failed to initiate her own menu or wrap her head around it. She’s not a speed demon. She’s a tortoise. Done. Sad, but true.

    But she did say she was classicly trained when she was at Chef Rippert’s restaurant. You do have to give that back to her.

    Editing is subjective when it comes to the show, and it always “highlights” the “lowlights”. Just as it took you a million years to cut those onions during your season, it also showed that you can whoop up some great food.

    Keep cooking! Looking forward to hearing more of you.

  • And evil takes a human form in Casey Thompson. Don’t be fooled because she may seem like your typical selfish, back-stabbing slut faced ho-bag, but in reality, she’s so much more than that.

  • Tyler

    Wow. It’s almost as if Casey thinks SHE was the chef competing in this challenge.

    No. Casey, you were picked because you had nothing else better to do and could get away from your restaurant (which obviously, Hung is too successful to, at this point) long enough to try to desperately extend your fifteen minutes, which are long since up – NOT as the competing chef, but as the sous-chef. A glorified prep cook, in this case. Fall back. Just fall back from your high horse.

    You could have taken the high road like Carla and not said anything rude or disparaging. Go back to cooking the typical uninspired Asian fusion food. . .or “French grandmother” cooking FROM TEXAS.

  • DeeJay

    I think you people are not getting the big picture. Casey is upset how she was protrayed by the show. You do not realize how much the show is edited. She could have been a victim of a ratings ploy. Remember they called her the Black Widow because her closest friends in season 3 were eliminated. She wasn’t too happy with that moniker. I really liked Carla from what I saw. But ultimately she was the one that failed the final, not because of Casey. For her to say she wants nothing to do with Top Chef again, she must taken this personally. Was it wrong the way Casey did this…. may be, but PEOPLE PLEASE, get the entire picture before you judge someone. Top Chef has proven itself to be a terrible show. Its a popularity contest and not the most talented chef that wins. Only 2 Top Chefs deserved to win the Title…. Harold Season 1 and Hung Season 3…. Sam should have season 2…. Richard should have won season 4…. and Stefan should have won season 5. End of story!

  • DeeJay

    ps. casey payed me big bucks to talk nice about her

  • that guy

    Sidedish and D magazine are loving Casey right about now. They have never received more hits on their website till today. The show is about cooking people! If steak and potatoes in a merlot sauce and a cheese course is Carla’s idea of her best meal then good for her, but I think it shows how she was really out of her league. Props to Casey for trying to make something out of nothing. Bravo knew that Carla was the fan favorite. They could not let her go down in flames alone, so they threw Casey under the bus. Who ruined the Souffle by over cooking them? Carla. Who ruined the sous vied steaks by ‘touching them up’ on the grill? Carla. So the two dishes that killed her chances of winning were ultimately her own fault.

  • Roz

    Even if Casey’s rantings are true, Carla still has way more class than Casey.

  • Meter

    Jesus Casey. I seem to remember you falling apart and losing to Hung in your season.

    She flubbed, so did you, get over it. You’ve gained nothing by writing this — oh other than an internet following who hates you and will make yourlife miserable for the next month or so.

    God you’re stupid. You had a fair amount of goodwill because of how you did on TC and because you worked with Carla this time round — and you pissed it all away.

  • DeeJay

    Perhaps Food Network might consider using Casey somewhere in their line up. Casey’s rant about Top Chef has enlighten me and now I will cease to watch it anymore. Tyler Shut UP! Your comment reffering to her French Grandmother’s cooking was uncalled for.

  • LondonParis

    Carla’s biggest mistake was forgetting that Casey got to the final and LOST- therefore she shouldn’t have been taking any advice from her to begin with, since she obviously doesn’t have what it takes to win. The frustrating part is that Carla definitely did have what it takes, and between her stress and nervousness and Casey’s shitty ideas, it totally fell between the cracks. She messed up big time, but I’d still eat her food before Casey’s.

    Casey hugging Carla at the end of the meal and then turning around to rant like this makes her a petty twat. I’m happy she lost, and I was NOT happy to see her bitter face back again. Please, slink back into semi-obscurity. Nobody is upset that you’re “done with TC.” We won’t miss you.

  • madmutts

    What a classless commentary on Carla’s performance on the finale. Pardon me if I am skeptical about Casey’s opinion of Carla as a chef considering Carla’s wins in the episodes prior to the finale and the comments from, well, chefs that are respected worldwide. Part of the reason for using past competitors was that they could help because they had been in a finale themselves. Why, oh why then would Casey not retract a suggestion when Carla said she hadn’t done it before and tell her to do it Carla’s way. And regarding poor Casey’s workload, isn’t that what a sous-chef does? execute the chef’s ideas so they can orchestrate the whole meal?

  • The Real Catherine (learn how to spell your name)

    Had enough yet? Give it up Catharine. Casey’s name = mud, and it’s all thanks to her lack of graciousness. Ugly is as ugly does.

  • LisaJoy

    I think Catherine is really Casey. Smoke and mirrors…. You need to go to finishing school and learn some manners.

  • Beth

    Casey is a real piece of work.

    What an unprofessional tirade – and does she really think people who watched Carla the entire season can’t tell that Casey is lying?

    Casey lost Top Chef. Clearly, she saw this as an opportunity for a redo. Shame on her. I’m terribly sorry Carla didn’t have the backbone to tell her to shut up and cut some onions.

    I guess she saw the episode where Casey blew the onion-cutting challenge!

  • DCVotes

    Carla said at the end of the episode that she wanted to show that you could compete with love, and has she ever.

    Casey’s comments are appalling and indefensible, but those of you who defend Carla by suggesting Casey has herpes, among other things, are disrespecting Carla too. She would not, and is not, stooping to that level.

    It was clear to me that Carla was shaky from the start. I am so sad she didn’t trust her own voice, but I would be thrilled to eat her food any day. What I would have loved to see was for Casey to take her aside and tell her to take a deep breath, calm down, and focus. Of all people, Casey would know how important that is in the end.

    In theory, it is right that we shouldn’t judge Casey without knowing the whole story, but each and every single person who appears on a reality show assumes that risk. Isn’t that what these shows are all about?

  • Nancy Nichols

    Okay, people. Our server is down and I can’t get into the back of these comments right now to delete some of the ones above. But as soon as I can, I will. Clean it up.

  • DragonInTheSki

    Casey, you are totally classless. Carla was decent and respectful to you, and you treat her like this? Man, I’m glad you didn’t win Top Chef. You are a complete and total snob. Why don’t you just own up to the fact that you screwed Carla up? You put yourself first, when you should have been thinking of Carla. I wish she would’ve had the gal to tell you to shut the hell up, that was her biggest mistake. You were there to HELP her, not to throw her under the bus. If I were you I wouldn’t say anymore about it, as you are developing a whole lot of haters. Including me, and I wasn’t one before.

  • jen

    Can’t read through all these comments-so forgive me if this has been said.Carla is a CLASSICALLY TRAINED FRENCH chef, wheres Casey is UNTRAINED- meaning never went to culinary school. Maybe that’s why she was picked last to help the chefs.
    Ultimately-it was Carla who messed up and Casey should have kept her mouth shut.

  • Heidi

    Catherine, let’s take you at your word and say Casey realizes she went too far in her e-mail. When should we expect to see her apologetic followup posted on Sidedish?

    Since Casey lost in the finals primarily because her oven was too high (remember the dried pork belly dish?), one would think that would be a piece of advice she might have passed on to her chef (hey, it gets crazy during the finale – make sure your oven temps are correct). You know, practical advice instead of, “Maybe you should try a technique you have NEVER DONE BEFORE when cooking what could potentially the most important meal of your life.”

  • TD

    The quote the author claims to attribute to Casey is incorrect, and was not requested as a comment for publication by D magazine or as commentary to a professional reporter.

    A conversation was solicited by a person claiming to be a personal friend with the intent of creating a story. Upon seeing the quote, D magazine has been contacted and requests to remove the comment has been unanswered.

    We hope that Wick Allison requests the recording of the call so that this issue can be resolved.

  • Toni

    I watched season three and really didn’t have a thought about Casey one way or another. But I have a thought about her now and it’s classless B—-!!!

  • GeeLite

    DeeJay: RICHARD should have won S4? What show were YOU watching? Stephanie kicked his ass! That win was all hers!

  • sorry casey!

    but guess what: they made you look bad b/c your ideas ain’t so good. Oh, and i’ve eaten your food – and it also ain’t good. maybe if you impaled some apples on a porcupine and let it wander around in lieu of a tray pass, with patrons free to grab a bite from the scurrying critter, people might be marginally interested in your “imagination”.

  • LoveForCarla

    The Casey defenders are forgetting something, Carla ADMITTED that she messed up. She even went out of the way to tell her fans that it was her fault, not Casey’s. Casey, obviously, has no class and instead of being gracious, she came off as a mean-girl. Did Casey forget that she lost in Top Chef and many people felt she shouldn’t have made it to the final round? Even Anthony Bourdain said Hung WAS the best Chef that season. So let’s add it all up, several revered chefs of the world said they loved Carla’s “Non-Classically Trained” food. How many said the same about Casey? Sounds like sour grapes, to me.

  • getreal

    I never had a negative impression of Casey before but she sounds so vicious in this interview. Anyone who watched the show saw her totally take over and push her ideas down Carla’s throat. I did not believe that she meant to sabotage carla until I read this mean nasty interview. Clearly she hates Carla and anyone who watched this show all season knows carla is a great cook she wowed some of the best cooks in America with her cooking. Casey’s response on this site has changed my whole view of her. No wonder the other chef’s didn’t pick her.

  • Bill

    Nobody here has yet stated what really happened last night.

    Richard Blais won Top Chef 5, with the help of his sous-chef Hosea.

    Look at Hosea’s dishes in every other challenge. Then look at his finale dishes. Hosea won by putting a Hosea stamp on Blais ideas and techniques. And it wasn’t even that much of a Hosea stamp.

    Stefan’s finale dishes were clearly recognizable based on his work earlier in the season. He won more Quickfires and ECs than the other finalists, and he is the ONLY one who cooked “his own style” in the finale. For that, he should have won.

    Carla choked under the loser deadweight of Casey, refusing to trust that as a strong black woman with love and soul it was OK for her to tell Casey “No!” when the old loser wanted to redeem her own finale loss through Carla.

    But Hosea was no better. He put out dishes that not only were unlike his previous work (as Carla’s also were), but also were clearly beyond his own skill level.

    That’s why I say: Richard Blais is the winner of Top Chef 5.

    Richard and Hung are the two chefs from all the seasons who were head and shoulders above the rest. They really are in a class by themselves. Sure, they may occasionally fuck up a meal, and some challenges might play to their weaknesses more than others, but in a real-world environment where they are left to indulge their skill and creativity, none of the other 60+ chefs comes close to them.

    Tiffani is fucking brilliant, too, but needs to cook in a hermitage where she will never have to deal with other human beings.

    Other than those three, there really aren’t that many standouts. Bizarrely enough, I have heard from people who’ve eaten Mike Midgley’s food (he’s the “Cheeto penis” guy from Season 2) that he’s really quite amazing. And I think Harold and Carla have more in common than many viewers realize — they’re not about the drama; they just show their love through their food.

    But most of the contestants — even most of the “winners” — are pretty frickin ordinary game show contestants, and might have done equally well as contestants on The Amazing Race as on Top Chef.

  • law

    Besides sounding defensive and rude if you look at her personal website she seems more interested in selling her ” clothes” with her “casey” logo. She was a runner up on a show and now seems to think she is a brand.
    Whatever–Carla should not have listened to her so her bad move in the end.

  • ClaraG

    People’s true character shines through when pressure/stress is applied and Casey you let your colors fly.

    Unless of course you were the victim of some “crafty editing”…again.

  • Huff

    I mean, honestly, even with the editing Casey didn’t come out to be the reason of Carla’s demise. Carla should have just used her for technical necessities and not really have let her talk too much. She should have been the leader.

    However, Casey just unnecessarily dug herself into a hole, making the above statements. She is rude, and her attitude is unwarranted.

    Btw, I never saw judges as pleased with Casey’s dishes as they were with some of Carla’s dishes.

  • carl

    Casey, you are talented, pretty, and i enjoyed you on the show. carla’s a different animal, and she was my favorite this season, she’s very talented too, a little disorganized, but she’s good.
    maybe i’m wrong, but i thought carla was classically trained, she said it enough.
    for the record, the judges change the rules every time, if this were tie, tie, stephan and hosea, or instead, tie, carla, stephan and hosea for the courses, it’s a tie, past performance counts, and stephan wins. instead, no past performance, bs, wish they’d make the rules clear. ..

  • belle

    Holy Moly! What a bitter Betty. Casey’s diarrehea of the mouth was totally uncalled for, completly classless, and devoid of facts. I love how Casey has to point out that Carla was not classicly trained (which in fact we all know she was), when Casey herself has not been classicly trained. Someone seems rather insecure with her cooking abilities, and it’s certainly not Carla. I also love how Casey rants and basically puts down Carla about how SHE would NEVER do a cheese course, when in fact the judges said that if it had been executed correctly the dish would have been the best of that course. It was a perfect progression in French cuisine and just shows Casey’s lack of training and knowledge in the culinary world. I could go on and on picking apart this vicious statemnt, but will not waste my energy on this talentless, bitter, hack.
    Oh, and to Casey’s so-called friend. She deserves every single nasty comment. Casey is over 30 years old and should have learned by now that you reap what you sow.

  • smidget

    Amazing. I can’t believe this. When Casey was in the top 3, I knew she wouldn’t win, but I routed for her anyway and now….I am not happy that I did. Regardless of what went down, and how each person sees it, this post, if from her, shows a total distaste, immaturity, and nastiness that is just plain caddy.

  • Thadeo

    Casey is between jobs, hopefully this will render her unhireable.

  • Amber

    Casey, You are so pathetic – it was like watching Orange County Housewife with a Goddess…Carla is in a realm you will never touch. You are bitter, untalented and truly deserve the karma ahead of you. The only worse thing beyond Hosea winning is seeing your catty attitude – go back to 6th grade. How sad you never evolved.

  • Eddie

    I think this was probably all said in the heat of the moment. If you feel like you were the public scapegoat of Carla losing (who made all the execution mistakes herself, regardless of sous vide or not), you’d be pissed and lashing out about how this got edited too. Anyways, I look forward to seeing Jennifer Aniston succeed in other pursuits.

  • annie

    Casey don’t you feel a little bad for meddling too much. Show some class. You are not TOP CHEF material. It wasn’t your challenge. You should have been helpful and respectful. It looks like from you comments that you tried to sabotage Carla. What possessed you? She never did anything to you but send the love!

  • Melina

    lol. You stay klassy, princess.

    Why you felt it necessary to spew venom toward Carla because you were unhappy with the editing and the comments on the internet, I cannot fathom. AFAIK, Carla has absolutely no control over either of those things. Think you went too far with this bitter little missive of yours? You’re right, you did. Still, I somehow doubt you’ll man up and do the right thing by sending out a public apology to Carla. Prove me wrong.

  • Very Sad :(

    Casey’s response to the things people are saying is very sad. I really liked her on her season but it’s hard to continue admiring someone who acts the way she did. True everyone makes mistakes . . .like Carla did by not cooking her own way during the finale. However, I really think that Casey should take a good long look at herself in the mirror and ask herself if she likes what she sees. I think if she’s honest with herself she’ll realize that she should have deleted that e-mail before she sent it.

  • ttttt

    The show was edited to suggest Casey to blame for Carla loosing. I’m glad Casey is setting the record straight here. If what she said is even half true—I tend to think she’s right—Carla doesn’t even belong in the finals, let alone winning. Grilling a protein after a sous vide (a technique that usually soften meat) sounds like something Carla did.

  • overachiever

    From Carla’s Facebook page:

    Deepest Gratitude

    I know things didn’t go the way we wanted last night, but I take full responsibility for my lack of performance in the finale. Please don’t blame Casey. All of you have given me a much bigger prize than the title could have ever delivered — your hearts, your support, and your love. When you are loving me, you are smiling at the person next to you. For that moment, we are making world a better place. Let’s keep it going.

    Warm hugs and love to you all!
    Carla

    Further proof that casey is a grade A bytch

  • Joe

    I find it really interesting that Casey would publically talk $hit about Carla when Carla’s never had anything but kind or at least POLITE things to say about anyone she’s ever been asked about.

    Casey must be feeling a little guilt. Its ok, Casey. You’ll get over it.

  • overachiever

    i don’t see how people can defend casey after carla last NIGHT took responsibility for what happen. carla can’t help it if some of her fans blamed casey for suggesting the sous vide and it turned out badly.

  • John

    Casey was the “Top Chef Fan Favorite” for the show’s third season. I’d like to take my vote back. She clearly did not serve a supportive role to Carla in this season’s finale. With a profession that is so male dominated, I would have expected Casey to have tried much harder to help Carla win the competition.

  • overachiever

    http://gawker.com/5160829…ted?skyline=true&s=x

    Season Five of Bravo’s Top Chef was never an easy season. Like a colicky baby, it mostly consisted of whining, wailing, and runny poop. But some babies grow out of this stage and for a while, it seemed like Top Chef could too. No dice.

    Last night, the top three contestants-piss of shit Hosea, arrogant sweetheart Stefan, and cartoon saint Carla-were asked by a very good looking Indian woman and her blue-eyed Paddington Bear to cook the best meal they could. The meal would consist of three courses, be for twelve people and would be judged head-to-head. Of course, there was help. Or rather, “help.” From the shadows in the courtyard emerged the runners up from the last three seasons. Marcel, who lost to the pela cuca Ilan; Richard Blais, the adorable dad, who lost to Stephanie Izzard last season; and Casey, the zombie bitch from hell who fucks everything up who combines confidence with idiocy. You may remember her from Season 3, when she fucked up so horrendously in the final that her name has become synonymous with abject failure at a straight-forward task. “Oh, man, I totally Caseyed my taxes this year. I’m not getting any refund!”

    Though Stefan lost and Carla bit it hard, both of them leave Hosea in the dust, masturbating alone on his pile of cash and catching the seed of his climax in a Glad container. Towards the end of the episode Carla says, “I came here to show there is a different way to compete. I competed with love.” At that she succeeded.

  • LUCI

    HI
    I can’t believe what i’m reading… My hubbie and I both liked casey…..what’s going on here? We love Carla too.

    I hope that Casey did not write that blog about Carla.

    If Casey actually wrote that blog about Carla….Casey, you should be ashamed of yourself. It was not needed.

  • Joe Mondo

    What a nasty piece of work Casey is.

    Carla has owned up to her responsibility, as she should – no matter what Casey suggested, it was Carla’s call.

    But Casey trash talked Carla on her own, apparently out of her own, justified, lack of self worth. Pitiful.

  • R

    Wow. I liked Casey quite a bit during her season, but this is ridiculous. What’s with all the bitterness? Even if some people are blaming her for Carla’s loss, why take it out on Carla? Gross.

  • Hell’s Kitchen

    Well well. Really Casey would fit better on Rock of Love, where she could completely skank herself into a pretzel. Instead of having to go on-line to smack talk, let her do it live on TV. She wouldn’t have to cook and loose, she’d just have to pull hair, talk loudly and have spittle fly out of her mouth, and shake what her mama gave her. There is no special French training required, except perhaps to don the Maid’s outfit. The coarser and cruder the better. And they can say F _ _ _ instead of Friggin. Dump TC and head on over to RoL.

  • NP

    Bill I agree. Blais won this gig, not Hosea
    I really enjoyed this season, until the last episode.

    That was a travesty.Stefan was robbed

    Dear Casey, A lot of this vitriol is over the top. I hope you don’t take it to heart.
    I think you were feeling stressed and defensive, so you let it fly. I’m sure you would take it back if you could.

    Sometimes, being human is not pretty.

    I hope you can get in touch with Carla. I know she will forgive your harsh words.

    Truly, you have my best wishes

    Don’t worry. Be Happy

  • I have a theory:

    Hosea bribed Casey so that Casey would mess up Carla’s plan.

    whatdoyathink?!?!?

  • Lynda S

    Was this rant really generated by Casey?? It doesn’t sound like her personality at all. During her time on TC, she was always so controlled and measured her words very carefully. She never flipped out.

    If it indeed is from her, it is truly mean spirited and callous. Hopefully, Carla will not ever see it.

  • Wow, so much for Casey’s “fan favorite” status, huh? It’s really too bad that she had to lash out like this, especially since Carla’s going out of her way to absolve Casey of blame. Sad.

  • OneArtDirector

    This is nuts.

    I’m shocked at some of the venomous name-calling in some of these posts.

    Say what you will about Casey, but at least she didn’t stoop that low in her criticism of Carla’s perceived skill level.

    In fact, those who are using vulgar names to criticize Casey are actually stooping below the the very level that they accuse her of.

    So…pot, meet kettle. (no pun intended)

  • FanFare

    Casey,
    This blog of yours is very disturbing and spiteful. If you did all the work you claim, then it is nothing to toot your own horn about. The judges hated your food when you were a contestant in the S-3 finale. And they obviously hated it when you did it here. I guess misery loves company. You blew big time at your finale and decided to crank out another loss for someone else… For shame! You would have been better off by saying nothing than to sound off like a bitter pill. Good luck to ya now that you have attained a reputation for ruining the careers of other chefs whose paths you cross.

  • IJS

    Um, could you link to that picture of Casey at the beach in her bikini? Let’s focus on what’s important here.

  • OneArtDirector
  • Linda

    The mistake here, I believe, is having previous losers “help” in the finale.
    I was hoping Carla would win and I think she would have if left to her own devices, talent, and decisions.

  • mojitobaby

    Yow, say it ain’t so, Casey!
    I felt for Casey when I first started to read the comments on TWoP about the Curse of Casey, etc. I felt they were vicious, nasty and unfair. OK, perhaps she shouldn’t have been “helpful” and just dummied up like Marcel over freezing fish. But conversely Richard certainly did as much “helping” being Hosea’s sous-chef – the winning food sure as hell didn’t look like Hosea’s! Editing monkeys at work! Yeah, there’s been foam all over his dishes this season…

    But a chef, especially a TC, has to be a leader and keep true to their own vision. If you’re so easily influenced outside of what you know to be “your” food (Cheese tarts!? Oh Carla, I wept because I know what you can do with crust…) then sadly you’ve lost focus – and the title.

    And Carla knew it. And acknowledged it graciously even when Tom baited her.

    But Casey, to attack someone who wasn’t blaming you on all levels, from ideas to technique, who exonerated you at the outset when Coliccio tried to make it easier for her to roll over on you did you no favors, as you can see here. If you’re reading this and feel you’ve been rash and defended yourself by attacking back because you felt you were being unfairly attacked, be gracious enough, and big enough, to apologize. I think you were overwhelmed at your final and Carla was as well. So everyone was attempting to make this all about you and rescue their favorite by blaming you – and unfortunately you bit and now it IS all about you. I think you’ve lost a lot of respect now, but I do realize why and how it happened.

  • KT

    Casey, Carla is classically trained.

    I don’t know why you’re so vehement. Perhaps you’ve been taking a lot of flack because the editing made it look like you influenced her.

    I would like to think that people understand whatever suggestions you made have offered, it was Carla’s decision and she’s responsible. She’s accepted that and I have found no hint of her trying to blame you.

    I have a lot of compassion for the amount of pressure in that type of situation. I can barely imagine it, and I’m sure it’s much worse in reality. Maybe she got overwhelmed and insecure. I certainly can’t belittle her for that.

    It means she’s not Top Chef material, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t skilled and talented in her own environment and style. There’s no need for you to judge her so harshly when you only had the one contact with her. She obviously did well enough to get to the same level you did.

    Perhaps you feel defensive, perhaps you feel so bad, for whatever reason, that you want to lash out and find reasons to blame someone else. I don’t know. But you do yourself no favors with this kind of behavior.

  • robin

    Well, we don’t know exactly what happened, but we do know that Carla didn’t win and that there were a couple of suggestions that Casey had that didn’t seem to pan out…not sure what Casey is hoping to accomplish by dissing Carla, but it ain’t working. Carla made a better showing in her final than Casey did in hers!

    All should be aware it turns out these so called “comments” were actually pulled from a personal facebook exchange. Its was not an interview, not a commentary. not professional reporting. Ms Eveans posed as a caring friend. To present her action as journalism is isn’t just unethical, it’s defamatory. To use her picture to imply consent may have taken it a step further.

    When made aware if it, Casey asked for it to be removed.

    Its way below D’s and Wick’s standard.

    Wow. I’m just seriously ashamed for you, Casey. You’re coming off full of hatred, spite and malicious regret, probably from losing the Top Chef finale… twice.
    You are being so petty like this. Carla is a classically trained class act that cooks with love… and is taking the blame for everything.
    So simmer down.

    Amy, regardless of the fact you’ve tanked your argument from the get-go by commenting on a subject you feel to be worthless and beneath you, I can direct you to a site excoriating Nadya Suleman if you want perspective on neglectful and irresponsible mothers. But that’s not the issue here. People are basically fair – but dislike injustice and poor judging, and do like to sling blame when they feel someone deserving was robbed or cheated.

    Meanwhile over at chefcasey dot com ../.

    The Top Chef experience has been a good one and everyone there has been genuine and wonderful. It was nice to return and working the Carla was a lovely experience. These are truly challenging tests and I am sorry that together we were unable to secure her victory. As I was once in the same position myself, I know how she feels and respect her performance. I know she will continue to shine.

    Just after the airing, an acquaintance contacted me on facebook and, it turns out, was seeking to create some controversy. She did not represent herself as a reporter and did not ask for a quote. Instead, she took advantage of me.

    I’m a fan of Carla’s and as disappointed as her fans are that she came up short. I’m more disappointed that my great experience with a fellow female chef of Carla’s talent would be damaged by such reckless and unprofessional reporting.

    I feel hurt and compromised. The publication who is involved has always treated me well, but in this case– it should be embarrassed.

    Did YOU talk to Casey today?

    This is getting curiouser and curiouser.

  • KT

    “Catharine”, Carla and Casey are both adults, responsible for their own actions. Carla lost TC. Casey made herself look like a petty, defensive and bitter brat.

    Both of them have to live with the consequences.

    You don’t see Carla anywhere around trying to belittle Casey, do you?

    I suppose it’s nice of you to stick up for her, but she would be better served if you helped her fix her gaffe. I would advise my friend to offer a very complete and sincere apology to Carla and everyone who had to read that trash as well.

  • Smith

    Way to stay classy, Casey.

  • Red

    Casey…..A miserable person, and I wouldn’t want to eat her food. It’s interesting how Love (Carla)and Hate (Casey) had to work together. Spawns of the Devil will always bring Angels down, if an Angel allows it.

    Carla should have handled Casey. It’s clear that ultimately Carla was responsible.

    But Casey is obviously a selfish, self-absorbed, delusional, and miserable soul. People like Casey always project that shyte onto others, and use people to validate themselves. It’s clear that Casey tried to use Carla’s opportunity for the TC Crown to make up for what she lost to Hung. I don’t think she was trying to sabotage Carla. I think she was just being miserable, period.

    I wouldn’t feed Casey’s food to my dog. Her food made with such bad energy going into any living being (besides roaches), is poison.

  • Rob

    Watching Casey go through Top Chef, the one thing that really stood out–and was pointed out on the Reunion Show for that season–was that Casey on your side was the kiss of death. She probably takes sadistic pride in ruining other chefs–but I’ll be looking for her at some McDonald’s in south Dallas.

  • EMT

    Casey has no class and I forgot she existed until she popped up on last night’s episode. None of the other chefs wanted her so Carla got stuck with the short end of the stick. I will not be supporting any of her culinary ventures in the future because those comments completely disgust me.

  • Hootie Hoo

    LOL at Casey’s damage control up there. And she has the nerve to tell the publication THEY should be embarrassed?? LMAO!

    Casey is “hurt”? Awww boo f’ing hoo. Now it’s the publications fault? This woman is pathetic.

    Wow Casey. Just W-O-W.

    I could almost feel sorry for you but I’d rather listen to Carla’s gracious interview on NPR.

    That’s right! I had forgotten about that and at the time thought it was probably just coincidence…not anymore!

  • Despicable

    Ummm, Casey, so, some “accquaintance” approaches you via email or Facebook or whatever and you just spew this venom out for the world to see and then you want to claim it’s “not your fault?” Casey? HELLO? Either you are a stupid moron or deliberately mean (possibly a combination of both)…either way, princess, you come off horribly. Get over yourself — it was not your challenge to lose. Do I think Carla should have stood up to your (obviously, in hindsight) crap ideas? Yes. But there is no reason to act like SHE was YOUR sous chef and ruined your chances. Gawd.

    Carla – wasn’t sure about you at first but I grew to feel the love! Hootie-hoo! Good luck, Carla, in all your future endeavors!

  • Deborah Jenkins

    Most of the commentators have expressed my feelings perfectly, but just to make sure I am heard, Casey, this statement that you made is just mean. I doubt it was Carla that inspired your rage, perhaps it was the rest of us, who feel you took over on Carla’s night, that you screwed her out of the title.

    Well it was 50/50, you gave bad suggestions, and she went along with you. No matter what you say now, we have it on tape, you made the suggestions.

    And you made a sauce for two days (did you have two days to cook?) that was never used? There was no issue about sauce it was the meat that screwed her, and even if she did try to grill it, it was probably only to try to save it. Poached beef, yuck!

    All the good was yours, and all the bad was hers, is that what you are saying? And everyone thinks Stefan is egotistical!

    I will try to be like Carla and just send you love, but you make it really hard to do so.

  • Thomas_Colicchio_Jr.

    wow. what a childish and unprofessional way to conduct oneself.

  • whl

    bitter, table for one! Grow up Casey! We love you Carla!!!!

  • Strawberry McFukfuk

    Carla Rules and should have taped Casey’s mouth shut and said “you, work for me and do what I tell you”; either she tried to sabotage her or she was as untalented and lame that her ideas failed her this time just like the last time. There’s a reason you lost the first time around Casey darling! and now ungrateful lil worm, go back and crawl under the rock you came from so we dont have to hear your two-faced, fake nice b.s. again. Byyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • Tegan

    Hmmm. I did hear Carla say cheese course, but I clearly heard her say “my version of meat and potatoes” and “corncake”. So, although Carla is to blame for taking Casey’s advice, it is not the case that Casey didn’t influence her.
    It would be useful to see the out-takes of Carla grilling the meat and Casey making the sauce. I do blame Carla for not turning down the souffle, also. But, I would have preferred her winning over other contestants, as I wish casey had won on her contest – but recall that she fell apart in that episode.

  • decent cook

    I loved Carla early on when I noticed how sweet and comforting she was with the losers. At that time, her kooky side wasn’t as evident. As the competition carried on, I found her quirks endearing, as a fellow oddball myself.

    Regardless of how Casey’s comments were obtained, she had to know they were “on the record.” I mean, my goodness, it was an email with an acquaintance after all (never heard of copy and paste or forwarding?). If she didn’t want those comments published, she should have kept her blunt and honest words restricted to those she trusted implicitly (say Catherine, but Catherine is posting here seemingly in proxy for Casey).

    In line with the consensus, Casey’s defensive statements against Carla went beyond the pale. It’s one thing to offer more perspective as to what happened behind the scenes than what was aired on Top Chef, but it’s inexcusable and unwarranted to belittle Carla’s credentials (e.g., she’s not classically trained) or her skills.

    By virtue of the Ripert challenge alone, Carla proved she had the classically-trained background and techniques to dissect a Ripert dish and replicate it. In contrast, look how poorly Jaime did in the same challenge. So even if Carla had never divulged she had French cuisine training, any viewer could conclude she had the background.

    Tsk, tsk, Casey. Instead of criticizing how your comments became public, you ought to own up those words came out of your mind unforced and you should sincerely and directly apologize for the harsh words about Carla.

  • Baby Jesus

    I’m not really a Carla fan, but it’s obvious that she is a very sweet person. I felt bad for her when she got stuck with Typhoid Casey.

    I never understood why Casey had any fans. On her season I thought she was stuck-up, boring, untalented, and her looks were totally overrated. She’s generic in every way. Her nasty comments are no surprise to me, she always seemed very bitter, whiny and self-entitled. Maybe she should try getting a job writing recipes for GOOP – she would fit right in with those snotty,pretentious twits.

    So here’s hoping for much success for sweet Carla, and for Typhoid Casey to go sous vide herself.

  • Wow Casey…….I knew there was a reason you seemed phony to me during your season. Now I see it plain as day. Editing or not….you should have kept your mouth shut, and let Carla speak. I don’t care what you say about editing, it DOES show you making your voice heard, and of course, Carla goes along with it, because she knew you were in the finale before, took your advice. And she’s already down from losing, then you had to go and kick her even worse. How low is that? Why don’t you grow up, go back to your lil diner or whatever it is you do, and stop bad mouthing people. Carla is a much better cook than you, and you have no right whatsoever to cut her down.

  • Jasper

    You people are nuts. Casey is a great chef and she worked her ass off in the finale. Too see how she has been scapegoated by both the public as well as the producers is VERY disappointing.

    FWIW…I like Carla. She seems like she has the ability to comfort food well.

    It also seems like she drew a complete and utter fucking blank during the finale.

    Casey is being ripped by everyone, so she responded, and defended herself. Period. Was she a little excessive? Possibly. But who else was in that kitchen? Any of us on this fucking board? No. No way. We have no idea what happened beyond what the TC producers have arranged for us to see.

    If Casey feels the need to defend herself (you, since her CAREER DEPENDS ON PEOPLE HAVING FAITH IN HER FUCKIN COOKING ABILITY), then as long as it is THE TRUTH, so be it.

    It’s not fake or shallow…its so much more fucking real than the producers of TC

  • Very Sad :(

    Sadly Casey didn’t write her e-mails the way she should. She should ALWAYS assume anything she puts in writing will be read by someone other than the person she sent it to. E-mail can always be passed by the person receiving it or hacked into and published. I’m sure what she said was felt was because of all the heat she’s taken for trying to help Carla. However, she did herself no favors and just made herself look unprofessional and cruel. I’m sorry she wasn’t more circumspect before she spouted off.

  • I used to like Casey

    I used to like Casey, but this is just beyond the pale. Absolutely classless. There was no reason to trash Carla. I don’t care if Top Chef took unfair liberties with the editing. That’s not Carla’s fault. Carla acknowledged that she shouldn’t have let Casey drive any of her cooking and that she had made other mistakes. She didn’t blame Casey for them at any point. She blamed herself for not trusting her own style of cooking. It seems perfectly obvious that Carla cannot cook or conceptualize Casey’s style as well as Casey can.

    Dear Casey,
    I was going to be in Dallas at the end of the summer and was planning to spend a lot of money at your restaurant. I’m going to go to Chili’s instead.

  • Fran T.

    I want to clear up something Casey said in her comments. Carla IS CLASSICALLY TRAINED.
    “Graduate Carla Hall is in Final of “Top Chef” Cook Off
    February 26: 10:00PM
    L’Academie de Cuisine graduate, Carla Hall was in the Top Three Finalists.” This info ia from her school’s website.
    It appears to me that Casey was embarrased by what happened and wanted to strike back with any weapon she THOUGHT she had. Wrong again Casey, just like when you didn’t win. Me thinks she does protest too much!

  • Casey, this was not your challange to lose again. You should have kept your friggin mouth shut and let Carla cook what she had planed. At the end on the day, it was Carla’s decision to go with your ideas. I’m sure she is kicking herself in the butt about listining to you. She should have been mean and nasty just like you and said, shut up, we are cooking what I originally had pland out!

  • Jasper

    “Dear Casey,
    I was going to be in Dallas at the end of the summer and was planning to spend a lot of money at your restaurant. I’m going to go to Chili’s instead.”

    Yeah bro, you have a palate for fine dining… 😐

  • Becky

    Wow! Any respect I had for Casey just flew out the window. I understand that she wants to defend herself and her business after the way the final episode was edited, but this was not the way to do it.

    Show some class, and don’t shoot off any more emails when you’re angry because it will make you look like an ass.

    And one more thing: Casey is not classically trained so I have no idea where she gets off using that as an insult. Casey, who can’t even chop up an onion the way a chef is supposed to and who thinks that coq au vin can be made with chicken. poulet = chicken; coq = cockerel. I live in France and am married to a Frenchman, and when we saw that episode with the “coq” au vin we howled with laughter. As if saying that her grandmother was “French” would validate the dish as coq au vin! To quote Christopher Ciccone in part: If your grandmother was French, “then I’m a monkey”. And as for the sous-vide idea in this last season’s final episode? Uninspired and gimmicky. As Spike wrote over at Top Chef twitter, “sous stupid”. Didja read that, Casey?

  • Jasper

    Honor Carla’s request to not to blame Casey

  • Gina

    Don’t worry Casey…I am sure Top Chef is done with you as well. Carla’s mistake was simple…letting Casey make the decisions. Unfortunately, Carla is not a leader.

  • Becky

    Hey Jasper, a.k.a. Casey’s personal defense ninja:

    I’m not talking to you.

    Casey is a “celebrity”. Going on television and sending an email to be published on a public blog leaves her open to comments such as these.
    Let her live with it. Unless she’s paying you to reply to each commenter here, I don’t see how you benefit.

    P.S. whether or not she won the “coq” au vin challenge is irrelevant. It still doesn’t make a chicken into a cockerel.

  • Gina

    One more thing….Carla…thanks for not having to use profanity every other word!

  • Jasper

    Becky, thank god for the few of us defending her. I’ve eaten Casey’s food. She is an AMAZING cook.

    Simply put, she could cook Carla under the table in a head to head challenge. It would not be close.

    Possible Bravo spinoff? Hmmm…

  • Jasper

    And regarding the coq-au-vin….the judges conceded that the quality of the dish more than made up for the error in its name.

    Perhaps if her argument wasn’t that her grandmother was French but rather that she named the chicken “with love” you’d give her a pass?

  • voice of reason

    OK, Casey defenders (and Casey herself, who is at least reading if not posting herself). Casey, stop taking a page out of every desperate person who got caught with a giant sous vided foot in their mouths: Stop a) blaming editing (because editing doesn’t change what comes out of your mouth); b) blaming Carla (because you felt the need to control freak her simple approach and didn’t know how to deal with her calm, laid back attitude); c) accuse the media of “tricking” you (how very Gwyneth Paltrow of you) ; and d) blaming the outraged fans who are furious with your back pedaling and hypocrisy.

    It was clear that you made Carla freak out with your second-guessing of her approach. Did you even see the last episode where she shucked oysters for most of the time? And then went on to make the WINNING dishes of all? Just because she doesn’t run around like a mispronounced coq with her head cut off doesn’t mean she didn’t have her act together. She works by distilling an idea and focusing on it, not like you worked, which was by freaking out and choking. Whether you want to believe it or not, YOU caused her to fail, mostly by throwing her off her game. And now you should be ashamed of yourself for not owning up to it. You are even more despicable than Ilan, if that’s to be believed. You best disappear for a while and lick your self-inflicted wounds.

    Jasper, I was one of those who was rooting for Casey to win that season of Top Chef and she was one of my favorite contestants. I’ve no doubt that she can cook, but truth be told: This email that she sent really and truly made me lose the respect I had for her. Those comments were unwarranted.

    The sort of reply that she sent just reflects badly on her, and unfortunately the fact that she can cook just doesn’t make it look any better. I’m disappointed that she sent it and allowed it to be published! Any and all comments that she gets as a result are merited. If one can dish it out, one has to be able to take it.

  • voice of reason

    Becky, I also was rooting for Casey during her season but the same thing that crashed it for her in her last show crashed it for her in this one. She chokes under pressure and that’s contagious. She saw this as a team challenge rather than an exec. chef/sous chef situation and for that reason she blew it for Carla. And yeah, too bad Carla didn’t stick up for herself, it’s probably a skill she’ll need to learn. Regardless, Casey had no business second-guessing Carla’s menu. Her job was to go along with what Carla planned. Casey’s ass wasn’t on the line until she put it there.

    If this show happens again, they need to rethink this terrible approach to the sous chefs. Bring back the pro chefs like they did before, at least they know the proper pecking order in the kitchen.

    Shame on you, Casey. Can’t wait to hear your next excuse. PMS maybe? Or the sun was in your eyes?

  • Jasper

    Becky, fair enough.

    Look…sometimes when the world turns on you and you feel like you are in a corner, you lash out. I’ve been there. She was getting inundated with emails. Her place in SF was getting phone calls. Many were downright nasty.

    She knows she went way over the line. She knows she made it personal when it never should have been. She feels horribly about that. And expect an apology to make its way public as soon as today.

    Bottom line…I think there is legitimacy in her complaints about the editing and the producers…but I will concede, she attacked Carla personally when she probably didnt need to…and while I guess its ok to attack a Stefan type who no one likes, when you attack a fan favorite there will be backlash…

  • Jasper

    And one more thing…

    Some of the comments here are downright silly.

    “She chokes under pressure?”

    She had a bad finale. Short of that she had a spectacular season. Come on. Is this about her ability to cook or what she said, because, as I just told Becky, I’ll concede the point that she should not have said what she did. But if you seriously are going to compare the career resumes (and frankly the consistency of their TC performances) of Carla and Casey, we are going to have a serious disagreement here.

  • voice of reason

    Jasper/Catherine, Casey CHOKED in her finale. And the exact same things that caused her to choke then caused Carla to choke in this one. Who cares about career resumes? Especially when Casey doesn’t feel it’s beneath her to LIE about Carla’s?

    All you’re doing is making it look worse for her by not owning up to her horrible behavior and trying to cover for her. It ain’t working. Give it up.

  • voice of reason

    “while I guess its ok to attack a Stefan type who no one likes, when you attack a fan favorite there will be backlash…”

    Bullsh*t. It’s when you let HUBRIS take over that you get backlash. Can’t wait to see Casey’s “apology” and how she deflects the blame this time.

  • IJS

    Thanks, OneArtsDirector! That has to be one of the greatest chef pictures of all times.

  • Can we break out the cactus juice yet? I’m buying.

    I don’t think the revelation about Casey’s attitude should be too surprising. Unless you were one of the many people formerly charmed and distracted by her visible augmentations above the waist that it rendered you unable to really taste her food at Shinsei in all of it’s see-and-be-scene mediocrity.

    The ladies over at Shinsei can be glad that Casey went behind their back, privately catering to the restaurant’s clientele, so that they would have real reason to let go of her. Quite frankly, I’m surprised we never heard a public backlash from Casey about Tracy and Lynae. Maybe she shared her eloquence on that subject with only her inner circle.

    Why would Consilient want Casey at the grand opening of their LA restaurant? (Listed on Casey’s worship-me website as a recent appearance.) Surely they can score a better “FAMOUS PERSON” than that.

  • Grapevine

    Just watching 20 minutes of Food Network makes me appreciate Top Chef even more. Thanks for all the drama and thanks to all the top chefs for having personality.

    What do the kind ladies over at D — who used to drool over Casey themselves (thank God that’s overwith) — have to say in response to this apparent comment:
    ——————————————-

    Just after the airing, an acquaintance contacted me on facebook and, it turns out, was seeking to create some controversy. She did not represent herself as a reporter and did not ask for a quote. Instead, she took advantage of me.

    I’m a fan of Carla’s and as disappointed as her fans are that she came up short. I’m more disappointed that my great experience with a fellow female chef of Carla’s talent would be damaged by such reckless and unprofessional reporting.

    I feel hurt and compromised. The publication who is involved has always treated me well, but in this case– it should be embarrassed.

    Casey

  • BourdainFan

    I think voice of reason has a point…Casey should make a guest appearance in next month’s GOOP. She and Gwyneth would become BFFs and text each other about how dreadfully mean the hataz are for not recognizing their collective brilliance.

  • Betterthenyou

    OK first off if Casey is “sorry” about what she wrote then she should have it taken down and write another one apologizing!!! I’m sure she is mad that she is just a mediocre chef and always will be! GET OVER IT CASEY YOU SUCK! And I remember her from her season and she was crappy then to! And to claim all those dishes as her own is what’s humorous! Congratulations Casey you have just RUINED your career! B/c guess what the world is a very very small place and when you have zero brain cells left and write a blog like yours ppl are going to respond and remember! And to think Carla is actually not blaming you and being nice about you just makes you look even more like a piece of trash. Go back under your rock and make some aprons or maybe get into porn b/c I will say it again YOU ARE JUST A MEDIOCRE CHEF and will not make it in the cooking industry. Maybe you should look in a therapist b/c obviously you have a lot of underlying problems! Good Riddance

    – Team Carla

  • Charmed

    This is all rubbish at this point…

    Stefan was clearly the best chef.

  • tinat

    Hey it’s not Casey’s fault she gave Carla horrible advice, it’s Carla’s fault for listening to it!

  • liz

    “Just after the airing, an acquaintance contacted me on facebook and, it turns out, was seeking to create some controversy. She did not represent herself as a reporter and did not ask for a quote. Instead, she took advantage of me.”

    No one can take advantage of you without your permission. If that’s the kind of email you send an “acquaintance” (someone you barely know), then you shouldn’t be too surprised at the outcome. Such comments are better kept to one’s circle of close friends or, better yet, said left unsaid. The only person to blame for the controversy over your tactless comments is yourself. Rather than trying to blame everyone else, a short apology would stop it.

  • GKyrz

    There’s some cognitive dissonance going on here. I see a whole lot of really tacky, classless comments about how tacky and classless Casey is.

    I agree that her rant was awful given how classy Carla has been and Casey could have made her point with less venom. That probably still would have pissed off “Team Carla”, but it would have made her look like less of a jerk.

  • Stryke

    Casey should keep her damn mouth shut. It wasn’t her finale so why should she comment about it? You don’t see Blaze or Marcel speaking out about their roles. And if Casey must comment, why does she have to be so acidic? No matter what she says people are going to think she screwed Carla over. She messed up her own chance in season 3 and now she doesn’t people to think she messed up someone elses.

  • Baby Jesus

    “Catharine” = “Jasper” = Casey

  • OverEd

    I don’t understand how people can claim Casey “lost it for Carla” or caused her to lose. Carla was the Exec. Chef and Casey the Sous. Carla should have kept her focus and game plan even with Casey’s recommendations, that’s part of the competition and part of what an Exec. does. BTW, I am not a Casey apologist, I really would have liked to see Carla win.
    However, Casey’s little post-show diatribe shows an utter lack of class and tact and I am mortified that she would make comments like that to any sort of media. I don’t know about her cooking, other than what I saw during her season, but I certainly have no confidence in her judgment in other arenas.

  • Loki

    BigDaddyMN, Can you read? People are pissed of at Casey for the rude, classless interview she gave that has her totally blasting Carla, when Carla NEVER ONCE blamed her. For this, you are WRONG, Carla will ALWAYS out class Casey both in and out of the kitchen!
