We can’t predict the future. We can, however, prophesy with some accuracy within about a six-month span, what some of the biggest concerts in town will be in this new year of ours.

Here they are, and why you should go.

Red Hot Chili Peppers | American Airlines Center | Jan. 8

Because you’re willing to Califorgive and Califorget whatever the hell “Hump De Bump” is, as well as the vast majority of the last few albums. These alternative rock goofballs can be good again.

Angel Olsen | Trees | Feb. 8

Because true heads know My Woman was the best album of 2016.

Rick Astley | House of Blues | Feb. 18

Because you want to know if Astley has the courage to commit the ultimate rickroll by never playing “Never Gonna Give You Up.” Let them down, Rick.

Twenty One Pilots | American Airlines Center | Feb. 22

Because you’ve been told this is what the kids are listening to, and it’s important to feel “with it.”

Erykah Badu | The Bomb Factory | Feb. 26

Because Badu throws the best birthday parties.

Green Day | American Airlines Center | Mar. 4

Because political punk rock anthems are scarce in 2017, and you can hope the band behind American Idiot has something catchy for the era of Trump.

Maren Morris | House of Blues | Mar. 23

Because we all like to see a local gal (Arlington) done good, and as corny as “My Church” is, it makes you want to listen to your favorite old country records.

Vanessa Carlton | Granada Theater | Mar. 24

Because you catch yourself humming “A Thousand Miles” at inopportune times, even after all these years.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers | American Airlines Center | Apr. 22

Because it’s Tom Petty, man.

PJ Harvey | The Bomb Factory | Apr. 27

Because Harvey, one of the greatest songwriters England has given the world, hardly ever tours the U.S. We are not worthy.

The Weeknd | American Airlines Center | May 4

Because every generation gets the Michael Jackson it deserves.

Lionel Richie and Mariah Carey | American Airlines Center | May 15

Because this setlist is going to be stacked with hits from both performers, and the sound at the AAC is more reliable than in Times Square.

Sigur Ros | The Bomb Factory | Jun. 7

Because your idea of a big concert involves singing in a nonsensical language and glacial post-rock that will leave you light-headed.
