Have We Found Our New Dallas Cowboys Anthem?

The songs we'll be listening to before America's Team plays the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

A couple months ago, we issued an open call urging any musician out there to give the Dallas Cowboys’ 2016-2017 season the rowdy anthem it deserves. While we’re not so presumptuous to assume that anyone heeded, or even read, the challenge, new musical odes to America’s Team have since proliferated on YouTube. Claiming the No. 1 seed in the NFC and going 13-3 with the most exciting rookie quarterback-running back tandem in NFL history will have that effect.

The anthems we’ve listened to are exactly what we had in mind: chest-bumping, loud endorsements of America’s Team loaded with references to current players and general descriptions of athletic dominance. We are so fired up for this Sunday’s divisional playoff game against the despised Green Bay Packers, we may need to run some laps around the office just to cool off.

But should there be only one anthem, one that encapsulates the sheer joy of knowing your football team is better than other football teams?

Let’s check out the contenders:

Keize Montoya: “Feed Me”

Selected lyrics:
I’m trying to eat, this my habitat
What you know about Zeke or the Dak attack
They can’t stop my scheme, just check my stats
I put on for my team and the facts are facts
Since I got the call from Jerry Jones
Burst on the scene and I carry on

C.I.G.: “Dallas Cowboys Anthem”

Selected lyrics:
The squad with such a rich history
Why they America’s team, it ain’t a mystery
Before J. Garrett there was Tom Landry
And when he flexed you need more than a Plan B.

Rikky Reign: “ZEKE and DAK Song”

Selected lyrics:
You wanna win? You wanna ball? You wanna spin? You want it all?
You win the game? You make the call? You make it rain? You going out?
Then you working like Zeke and Dak, Zeke and Dak, Zeke and Dak, Zeke
You grinding like Zeke and Dak, Zeke and Dak, Zeke and Dak, Zeke

Gabby Moe: “Be Aware of Dem Boyz”

Selected lyrics:
Salute my man Tony Romo, took one for the team,
The bigger picture is this mission for Super Bowl rings,
This one for Cowboys nation, all across the planet.

We love the music video production values and the thematic relevance of “Feed Me” — Ezekiel Elliott’s insatiable hunger has been emblematic of this team’s drive. On “Dallas Cowboys Anthem,” C.I.G. demonstrates a nimble flow and pays the most respect to Cowboys history, with shout-outs to Tom Landry and the Doomsday Defense. You must know where you come from to find out where you’re going. Rikky Reign’s “ZEKE and DAK Song” is the most fun to sing along to, while Gabby Moe’s “Be Aware of Dem Boyz” is the most likely to induce spontaneous jumping up and down.

All great, but is there a clear winner?

No. Because this is Dallas, where we can have as many anthems as we want. We have a whole playlist of songs committed solely to supporting a professional football team. Hard drives full of anthemic music. On Sunday, we will repurpose any music we hear—maybe something innocuous, like Paul Simon—into a full-throated pledge of support for the Cowboys of Dallas.

We have, indeed, found our anthems.
