Art House Theater Day, the cinematic equivalent of Record Store Day and an admirable effort to get people into seats at movies not featuring superheroes, is this Saturday.
For the occasion, a 2K restoration of Terry Gilliam’s fantastical 1981 mind-bender Time Bandits and a remastered version of Phantasm, the cult classic that pioneered the dwarf zombie genre, are screening at theaters near you. The Texas Theatre, as it has done memorably in the past, made its own trailer for Time Bandits, which we’ve embedded below.

Time Bandits is at 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Also showing at the Oak Cliff movie theater for Art House Theater Day:
- The documentary Danny Says, a great documentary that played at the 2015 Oak Cliff Film Festival and follows the wild career of Danny Fields, the music publicist who helped introduce the world to Iggy Pop, the Ramones, and the Doors. Fields also has the best dirt of anyone to survive the early days of punk rock in New York. (See the oral history Please Kill Me for more.)
- The Belgian stop-motion animation film A Town Called Panic.
- Ron Howard’s doc on the Beatles’ years as a touring band, Eight Days A Week.
The Alamo Drafthouse outposts in Richardson and the Cedars, meanwhile, are both playing the Phantasm remaster at 8:25 p.m Saturday.
Go see a movie this weekend.
