Labor Day is a time for sun, fun, and recreational activities in nearby bodies of water.
If you’re lake-bound in North Texas or elsewhere this weekend, we hope you have a grand time. We also hope you take one precaution that could save your life and the lives of others: Wear a life jacket.
The versatile life jacket is both stylish and practical. Its bold orange hue says to others: “My zest for life and fashion is matched only by my passion for sensible and safe boating practices.”
Whether you’re Michael Phelps or a water-winged infant, a life jacket is a must. If you’re knocked unconscious or incapacitated in the water, a lifetime of swim lessons won’t mean a thing.
In 2014, more than 78 percent of the deaths in fatal boating accidents were drownings, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. About 84 percent of those victims were not wearing life jackets.
Do the smart, safe thing.
