An Ode to the McKinney Avenue Trolley

Happy birthday, trolleys!

Oh, MATA, your trolleys charm us so,

third in ridership only to NOLA and San Francisco.

Your streetcars served our city for a 27th year,

so today we sing your praises for all to hear.

You wed Uptown and Downtown day in and day out.

You installed fancy buzzers so riders needn’t shout.

On hot days, rider count sees a great spike

Prompting regulars to consider financing a bike.

But we’ll never leave you, sweet non-profit icon.

Not Matilda, or Betty. Not even Green Dragon.

Thank you, MATA, for an always-eventful trip.

Your cars may be old, but you’ll forever be hip.

*In honor of MATA’s 27th birthday, trolley-goers will receive a complimentary cake ball (courtesy of The Original Cupcakery in Uptown) starting at 7am.
