I still haven’t made it out to Galleri Urbane’s curated exhibition of Texas-based artists, so I’m glad they’re making a point of reminding us that the show is coming down with this closing exhibition. One piece in particular caught my eye in the images from the show, Dylan Jones’ Bethlehem Olivewood, a massive wooden block with an over-sized price sticker, a kind of cross between Carl Andre and Claus Oldenberg that ropes in political and commercial undertones with its reference to religious souvenirs from the Holy Land.

In its 21st year, Craighead Green’s New Texas Talent remains one of the most important juried exhibition opportunities for young and emerging artists in North Texas. This year’s exhibition, which will include work by a whopping 40 artists, was curated by the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth’s Andrea Karnes.

PDNB knows how to sell a show. Who wouldn’t want to see the most important photograph ever made? In their (very defensible) estimation, that honor falls to View from the Window at Le Gras, the earliest surviving photograph which was made by the father of photography, Nicéphore Niépce, around 1826. The photograph is now in the permanent collection of the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas, but it will be on view at PDNB beginning this Saturday. Because of the delicate nature of the photo, it will be exhibited in a dimly lit box which allows for one viewer at a time. In other words, expect lines to enjoy this rare treat.

This two-person exhibition featuring Los Angeles-based Keith J. Varadi and New York-based Michael Kennedy Costa was organized by the recently (soon-to-be?) decamped Sally Glass, who is off to Houston. On the following evening, a corresponding performance take place at OFG.xxx, the new name of Oliver Francis Gallery. Changes everywhere these days in the novo-Dallas Artist League.
