1. The Wizard of Oz, Music Hall at Fair Park, through March 30.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s version of the adventures of Dorothy and friends comes to Dallas Summer Musicals.

2. SMU Meadows Dance Ensemble, Bob Hope Theater, Mar 26-30.

This dance recital presents three stunning contemporary works: Chalabati (2007), which is inspired by the culture of a Moroccan indigenous peple; Cold Virtues (2003), a dramatic interpretation of the novel Dangerous Liasons; and D-Man in the Waters (1989), which was created in honor of Demian Acquavella, a dancer who died of AIDS. The Saturday evening concert will also include a special tribute to Ann Williams, founder and artistic director of Dallas Black Dance Theatre, and Lily Cabatu Weiss, chair of the dance department at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

3. Gidion’s Knot, Kitchen Dog Theater, opens for previews Mar. 28.

We’ll be straight with you. This play, set in a fifth grade classroom, is not a happy one. After something happens to Gideon, a troubled or perhaps troublesome fifth grader, his mother and teacher have the saddest, tensest parent-teacher conference in order to determine where things went wrong.

4. Am I Blue, SMU Meadows School of the Arts, Mar. 28-30.

SMU theater students produce Am I Blue, a short play by the Pultizer Prize-winning (and SMU alumna) Beth Henley, on the 40th anniversary of the school’s original production. Two troubled teenagers meet in the middle of the New Orleans night and form an unlikely bond.

5. How I Became a Pirate, Casa Mañana, through Apr. 6.

This family-friendly musical will appeal to all ages, and carries the appealing message that a heart of gold is the greatest treasure of all. Also, songs like “I’m Really Just a Sensitive Guy” and “You’ve Got to Talk Like a Pirate” will tickle your funny bone.
