Sally Glass’ artist magazine celebrates its fourth issue, which features contributions from 20 artists on the theme of “the future.” George Quartz will DJ, and the party will be in conjunction with the opening of Pierre Bürger’s solo exhibition 0 likes.

ninjamanLord Blakely: Portraits of a Ninja at The Public Trust — December 14, 6-9 p.m. 2919-C Commerce Street, Dallas, Texas 75226.

Blakely Dodson’s work often pulls from a variety of pop cultural sources, but in this latest body of work, the artist focuses on Dancehall Reggae DJ Ninjaman, a controversial figure in Jamaican music. Playing off of Ninjaman’s own penchant for blurring myth and reality in his own showmanship, Dodson’s work uses a variety of techniques to blur digital and analog in his images of Ninjaman.

dojuanMaw N Paw at Kirk Hopper Fine Art — December 14, 6-9 p.m. 3008 Commerce, Dallas, Texas 75226.

This exhibition pairs the work of two artists, Carlos Donjuan and Luke Harnden, who both trace their development back to origins in Texas street art, and yet whose styles and approach have evolved in divergent directions — Donjuan’s vibrantly colored, figurative works and Harnden’s stripped-down, conceptual aesthetic.

corrisBAGGAGE by Michael Corris and Kelly Kroener at RE Gallery – December 14: 7-9 p.m. 1717 Gould Street, Dallas, Texas 75215.

For their second collaboration after The Dallas Collective, which exhibited at the Texas Biennial, artist, SMU professor, and formerArt and Language collaborator, Michael Corris, and S.C.A.B.-associated artist Kelly Kroener have created hand bags fabricated out of digitized images, exhibited in vitrines created by Travis La Mothe. The visual content of the commodities are images from Corris’ artistic career, stretching back to work he created in the 1970s and focusing on a variety of theoretical and literary influences. One surface tension of the project is the object-based mash-up of art, language, and commodity. But another seems to be that of memory and the status of art remembered and forgotten, which seems particularly relevant in a contemporary art world that regularly churns through cycles, fads, and regurgitations of already-trodden aesthetic and conceptual terrain. This opening was rescheduled after being iced-out last week.

500Creative Differences: 35 Years at 500x at 500x December 14: 7-10 p.m. 500x Exposition Ave, Dallas, Texas 75226.

We just celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Dallas Contemporary, and this weekend 500x will host its own celebration of the same landmark birthday. The exhibition will feature a survey of artists who have participated over the years in the artist-run gallery, a vital and historic Texas institution, the oldest artist-run cooperative in the state. The year 1978 was a potent one in Dallas. This opening was rescheduled after being iced-out last week.
