Are You an Artist? Do You Want a Free Room at the Fairmont for Three Months?

There are efforts underway to try to bring more artist residences and work spaces to the Dallas Arts District, but for now, the only game in town is a residency the Fairmont Hotel has operated since 2010.

There are efforts underway to try to bring more artist residences and work spaces to the Dallas Arts District, but for now, the only game in town is a residency the Fairmont Hotel has operated since 2010. Located just outside the Arts District (across the street from Fashion Industry Gallery, which hosts the annual Dallas Art Fair), the Fairmont sets aside a room in the hotel and an onsite gallery for a local, regional, or national artist. Each residency last three months, and participating artists are required to create a body of work, participate in events for guests, host open studio hours, and enjoy a free place to flop while they work. Then there’s the pool (pictured above), which will help make you very popular person in the local art scene when you start hosting parties there while you are a resident.

The hotel is looking for new artists for their space. Here’s the information to apply:

The Fairmont Dallas Announces Open Call for

Artist in Residence Program

 

WHAT: The Fairmont Dallas is pleased to announce that it is accepting submissions for the Artist in Residence program. Established in 2010, the program features local, regional and national artists who reside at the hotel while working in an on-site studio for a three-month period. The Fairmont Dallas furnishes artists with luxurious accommodations, complimentary parking, studio space and access to the employee café. While in residence, the artist will create a body of work for a one-month solo exhibition on view at the hotel gallery. The Artist in Residence will participate in art-related experiences offered exclusively for guests and will have open studio hours.

TO APPLY: Interested artists are asked to submit a short biography, high-resolution images of work, description of medium and inspiration, and a short statement (under 500 words) regarding why they are interested in being considered. Please indicate months of availability for the residency. Submissions will be reviewed by The Fairmont Dallas’ selection committee.

WHEN:          Please submit applications by August 31, 2013 for consideration for October – December 2013 residency. Please submit applications by November 10, 2013 for consideration for 2014 residencies.

WHAT ELSE: The Fairmont Dallas’ Artist-in-Residence program is a collaborative initiative featuring local, regional and national artists who reside in the hotel while working in an onsite studio. Artwork created throughout the length of the artist’s stay serves various purposes – some is displayed in public areas of the hotel while others illuminate the hotel’s themed Arts District Suite.
