D Magazine's weekly newsletter about Dallas after dark July 17

The Week/end That *Was*

It’s that time of year: vacation time. For everyone except you, that is. Pictures of Caribbean cruises and treks across Europe are flooding your inbox, and your coworkers can’t stop talking about upcoming hiking trips and snorkel tours. But don’t do a faceplant into your keyboard just yet. While cocktails on the beach sound nice and all (ok, it sounds great, actually) there’s plenty to do right here to keep you entertained. Why go anywhere else when you can stay in Dallas and sip on wine, munch on good old Texas BBQ, mingle at grand openings, and celebrate Christmas in July? Sounds fun doesn’t it? Stick around—whether you have a choice or not—and read below.

P.S. Party pics are much more fun to look at than your neighbor’s family vacation photos. Check ‘em out.

Where to *be* this week/end

Thursday

7/17

NAAN Allen Grand Opening

I know what you're thinking. Al-Al-Allen? Don't let the location scare you.

Friday

7/18

Blackfriar Pub

The patio is always packed, and now I know why. They've got pages of beers from all over the world, homemade sangria, Mexican martinis (huh?), and my favorite—which also happens to be very appropriate for this newsletter—Summer Beer (vodka, Blue Moon, and lemonade over ice).

Saturday

7/19

Vino 100

How does this sound: Peggy Sue BBQ paired with wine, hand-rolled cigars, a three-piece blues band, and as much beer as you can drink? You had me at BBQ.

Tuesday

7/22

Christmas in July at The Ginger Man

Although the forecast predicts clear skies and blazing heat, we can still pretend it’s Christmas time by drinking St. Arnold Christmas Ale and Vintage Pyramid Snowcap.

Wednesday

7/23

The Club: Is Up In Smoke

If you're thinking, "All of these events look great and all, but what I really want to do is to sit on a patio, smoke a cigar, and sip on some cognac," then you're in luck.
