The Week/end That *Was*

What is with all of this standing in line? I mean, sure, I can understand waiting around for 10 or 15 minutes or more at a primary when it comes to participating in American democracy. But standing in line to get into a club? As my good friend asked last weekend while we were waiting in a hideous line outside one of Dallas’ new trendy “ultra lounges,” “Are we in Miami? I mean, really?” And then you finally get inside and find the place is dead. Or worse, it’s filled with people who somehow got in before you and you look at them and think, “No way.” Did I just go on a rant? Sorry. I feel better now. This week, let’s focus on getting in (without a fuss) and getting what you want (a frosty beverage ... and maybe a phone number). Next-door to some of the more “chi-chi” lounges, Vickery Park is a breath of fresh air—or, to be more accurate, beer-and-smoke-soaked air.



Iron Cactus

You might have to wait for a table but not for a drink. There’s three floors with a bar and patio on each level. The rooftop makes for a perfect spot (weather permitting) to sip on a cocktail while taking in gorgeous views of downtown.
