D Magazine's weekly guide to the goings-on in the Dallas-Fort Worth area July 31

Sarah Eveans, Events Editor

If there’s one place we’ve spent a significant amount of time this summer, it’s Love Field Airport. (While our company might not technically recognize “Summer Fridays,” we have wholeheartedly embraced the concept.) While attempting to maneuver the security line (only Expert Traveler for us), text, and drink a Bloody Mary all at the same time, we’ve realized traveling is really rather exhausting! This weekend, we’re staying home. Well, not actually in our home, but in Dallas. John Mayer is going to be here, for goodness sakes, and Saturday night seems like as good a time as any to visit the Nasher Sculpture Center. We might even venture out on a Monday night for the event at TopGolf. Whatever we do, we’re happy with the knowledge that there will not be any reason for us to eat at Chili’s-To-Go or to place all our valuable makeup in a plastic baggie. It’s the little things.

Featured Event

311 and Snoop Dogg with Special Guest Fiction Plane - Jul. 31

This concert sounds like a party to us. We’ve seen Snoop live, and he didn’t start playing until almost midnight. It was totally worth all the missed sleep. We’re guessing those 311 guys will keep him on track, at least a little bit. We love “Down” and “All Mixed Up,” both of which remind us of college. And who doesn’t love all of Snoop’s songs, and the new “Sensual Seduction” is even growing on us. As long as he sings “Nuthin But a G Thang,” we’ll be happy.

Friday

8/1

Music: John Mayer

Sure, he always sings like he’s whispering, and we’ll stand out among the throngs of adoring teenagers, but still, this guy can play guitar.

Saturday

8/2

Kid Stuff: Pop Go The Wiggles, Live!

Sorry Mom and Dad, even if you don’t want to attend this event, we have a feeling your little one is gonna drag ya. Look at it this way:

Happenings: Saturday Night in the City: Garden Concert Series

What could be more fun than spending Saturday night at the Nasher? Okay, yes, spending Saturday night with George Clooney would be.

Monday

8/4

Galas and Benefits: TopGolf for the American Cancer Society

We haven’t been to TopGolf yet, but any excuse to put on our cute golf outfit, play around at the driving range, and drink cocktails for a good cause sounds pretty fun to us.
