You know what’s funny? Ya, we don’t know either. Not this week. We’ve typed and typed and even tried one of those brainstorming exercises from college where we write down a bunch of words that come to our mind without stopping. Yes, write -- as in, with a pen and a piece of paper. This trick used to work much better when our brain was fresh and clean, not riddled with angst and anxiety. But don’t worry about us. We’ll get our groove back. In the meantime, enjoy this week’s events: one comedian, two writer-ly events, a DMA exhibition that’s closing, and a cooking class. All of these are worthy of a witty intro, so we apologize. Now, back to our regularly scheduled Facebook status updating (“Sarah is finishing her newsletter, yay!”).

Jerry Seinfield - Jul. 19
We loved him in his puffy shift, when he couldn’t remember the girl’s name that rhymed with a part of the female anatomy, and when he dated the other girl with man-hands. Granted, his voiceover work as a bee wasn’t his best performance. But we’re betting on his comic genius returning when he does stand-up during two shows at the Music Hall at Fair Park. 7pm & 9:30pm.

Happenings: Writers in the Round at the Belmont
We love any excuse to go to the Belmont Hotel, so this one is a no-brainer for pseudo-intellectuals like us. Singer/songwriter Trish Murphy (her newest album is Girls Get In Free, a title we love), local writers Harry Hunsicker (Crosshairs and The Next Time You Die), Will Clarke (Lord Vishnu’s Love Handles: A Spy Novel (Sort Of)), and Melanie Wells (My Soul to Keep) are getting together to discuss the writing process.

Happenings: NasherSalon Lecture Series
Lectures might give you flashbacks to college (trying desperately to keep your eyes open, tripping down the stairs in the classroom, etc.), but we’re pretty sure this lecture series is stress-free.

Museums and Galleries: Bluebonnets and Beyond: Julian Onderdonk, American Impressionist Through July 20
This is your last chance to see this exhibition—or rather, you’re third-to-last chance. It closes Sunday. When we first heard about this exhibit, we thought, Bluebonnets—ho-hum. We’d rather stay home and watch bad reality TV. But after we saw the exhibit, our opinion changed.

Food and Wine: Cooking Class at Aurora
You’ve eaten at Aurora. You’ve admired Avner Samuel’s cooking and marveled, “How did he do it?” Go discover all his secrets during this cooking class. July’s class is Lobster Corny Dogs and Kobe Beef Burgers, so participants will learn how to make those (and who wouldn’t want to know that?).
