It’s amazing how quickly things change, isn’t it? Just last week, around this time, we were thinking how great a dad Matthew McConaughey is going to be, and, wow, how he has grown up! The next thing you know, just a few days later, Matty is pictured with a serious case of drunk-face dirty dancing in Nicaragua with a lady who is not his baby’s mama. Looks like we were wrong again (though it did get us thinking that we should really plan a trip to Nicaragua). But, readers, we were not wrong about everything. The sun will still shine, the events will still go on, and we will still be unable to decide if we really like the new Coldplay album. In the next few days, enjoy a skateboarding party, lots of music, and even a hot air balloon “glow.” We’ll be listening to “Strawberry Swing” on repeat and (almost imperceptibly) frowning.

The Art of Skateboarding – June 20
Who doesn’t like skateboarding? Well, besides us? We tried it once, and the force with which we hit the ground was really quite terrifying. But the reason we tried it was for a guy, and we’re pretty certain there will be a few of them at the Art of Skateboarding, presented by Guapo Skateboards. Local VIPS such as Ken Downing and Mike Thompson designed skateboard decks (note to self: find out what those are before Friday) that will be auctioned off to benefit Texas Scottish Rite Hospital and St. Philip’s School. There will be drinks, food, boards, and, if everything goes as planned, another cute skateboarder helping us with our ollie. RSVP required. 7 pm. Southside on Lamar, 1409 S. Lamar St. guaposkateboards.com.

Happenings: Dallas City Market Third Anniversary Party
We love Dallas City Market. We can’t even tell you how many times we’ve picked up its fabulous hummus, hidden the containers in the bottom of our trash, and passed it off as our own. In honor of the male attention this trick has earned us, we can’t wait to help DCM celebrate its third anniversary.

Happenings: DFW Summer Balloon Classic Through June 22
We rode in a hot air balloon once, and let us tell you—if you have to go to the bathroom while onboard, you’re going to wait a really long time. We’re guessing the participants in the annual DFW Summer Balloon Classic know all about this.

Music: True Colors Tour
Cindy Lauper, the B-52’s, Wanda Sykes, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and more will be in town for the second True Colors Tour, benefiting the Human Rights Campaign.

Monday

Music: Tom Waits
This show is a big deal to local Waits fans because he hasn’t been to town in a really long time. It will likely be a while till he’s back again, so if you like him, you’d better get yourself to the Palladium.
