D Magazine's weekly guide to the goings-on in the Dallas-Fort Worth area May 8

Sarah Eveans, Events Editor

Reminder: It’s almost Mother’s Day. Even though our mother can’t believe we haven’t produced some sort of evil spawn by now (and she’s still offering to help raise our child if something goes terribly, terribly awry), she’s still willing to claim us. She’s even headed to Dallas to hug us a lot, buy us dinners and possibly new shoes, and ask a lot of questions that begin with the phrase, “What happened to that nice boy
named ….” Well, that’s neither here nor there. We will ply mother with cosmos (so SATC) and stories of potential hubbies (largely imagined), while you get out there and enjoy these events. If it seems a little music-heavy, well, stop your complainin’. And kiss your mother. She means well, we’re certain.

Featured Event

Barefoot at the Belmont - May 8

We love the Belmont Hotel. Belmontinis make us feel pretty and skinny. And drunk. This event sounds perfect: It gives us the opportunity to drink 'tinis, listen to music, and take our shoes off. Which makes our inhibitions loosen.

Friday

5/9

Happenings: Taste Addison 2008 Through May 11

We don’t usually like crowds. They make us uneasy. But this famed festival, drawing nearly 70,000 people annually, is worth the discomfort.

Sunday

5/11

Music: Dolly Parton

It’s kind of like seeing the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, or the White House—just something any good American should do before they die.

Tuesday

5/13

Music: Old 97’s Official Release Party

You know you love “Big Brown Eyes” and “Time Bomb.” Come see the newest from Dallas-based Old 97’s. Surprises at this event include:

Wednesday

5/14

Happenings: Dallas Contemporary Victory Park Block Party

It’s Wednesday night. You could either: a) Watch Hills reruns, b) Go to the gym (booor-ring), or c) Come to Victory Park to shop for a good cause.
