It’s time to admit it: We are a pathetic cliché of ourselves. We try to be smart and worldly and, most of all, suspicious of television shows being made into movies. For some reason, the Sex and the City movie is breaking through our hard-earned sarcastic fortress! Something about those four ladies reminds us of the Girl Time we used to have before all of our friends started popping out babies. Ah, yes, when stroller talk and nannies were not first on everyone’s lips, and instead, we talked about boys and sex, and got too tipsy and cried (okay, that was just us.). One thing we can promise: We will not be drinking a Cosmopolitan at any point, ever. We have to draw the line somewhere. While we’re out doing an SATC marathon and then catching the movie, you can be doing some of these other, more interesting activities. Art fairs, unusual musical acts, and even wine and cheese pairings are on tap this weekend, but as for us, we couldn’t help but wonder…

CADD Art Fair 2008 - Through
Jun 1
We’re going to pretend like we know something about contemporary art for this one. While shmoozing with Dallas’ foremost dealers, we plan to talk about the New Realism of the 1960s and the Neo-expressionism of the 1980s (or whatever else we find on Wikipedia). Local galleries such as Holly Johnson, Barry Whistler, and Road Agent have artwork on display, and all art fair guests receive a complimentary copy of the 40-page 2008 CADD Art Guide to Dallas. Maybe next year we won’t sound so amateur. Sat, noon–8 pm; Sun, noon–5 pm. Three Three Three First Avenue, 333 First Ave. 214-369-0169. caddallas.net.

Happenings: Scotch tasting at Victory Tavern
We think this sounds like a great deal. Okay, there’s only one of us who thinks this, and it’s me, Sarah. For some reason other people think it’s weird that I like scotch!

Music: Dresden Dolls
We are excited for this show, because guess what? Although we like Justin Timberlake and some occasional Miley Cyrus, we also love some dark, strange, punky, rock music. It’s true.

Museums and Galleries: Making it New: The Art and Style of Sara and Gerald Murphy Through Sept 14
While most of our friends can barely choose the correct spelling of “their,” “they’re,” or “there,” back in the day, Gerald and Sara Murphy had friends such as Ernest Hemingway, Dorothy Parker, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Alfred Hitchcock. They also lived in Paris and on the Riviera. Scoreboard!
