We hope you enjoyed last week’s bounty of events, because we are sitting here eating Skittles and drinking coffee while desperately trying to find more fun events for you to attend this weekend. Usually, we are flooded with emails about things to do, but this week it’s like crickets in our inbox. It must have to do with Memorial Day. You’re going to someone’s lake house anyway, right? Or on a short vacation? If not, we apologize. You’ll be stuck with us in this hot city for three days with only our good looks and charm to keep us going. (And you know how far that usually gets us.) Cheers to summer, no work on Monday, and to the following summertime events.

SummerFest 2008 at the Gaylord - May 23 Through Aug 31
Wow, the Gaylord. Bet you didn’t see that one coming. But a certain managing editor of a certain city magazine keeps telling us how cool it is there, and this sounds like a good event for those of you who have been blessed with children. Every Friday this summer, the Gaylord somehow pulls off indoor fireworks in the atrium. That in itself makes the event worth checking out. This weekend, there is a free Junior Chef’s camp, where kids can learn the basics of cooking, while Mom and Dad hang at the Old Hickory Wine Bar. Also, Smashmouth will be performing tonight at the Glass Cactus. But you already knew that, didn’t you? 1501 Gaylord Trail, Grapevine. 817-778-2000. gaylordhotels.com/gaylord-texan.

Food and Wine: Cooking class at the Dallas Farmer’s Market with Scott Romano
We love Charlie Palmer at the Joule. But guess what—chef Palmer isn’t going to be workin’ the stoves every night. Scott Romano is, and you probably want to get in good with him, since VIP’s get extra food and stuff. Here’s a good way:
