D Magazine's weekly guide to the goings-on in the Dallas-Fort Worth area May 1
Forwward to a friend

Sarah Eveans, Events Editor
Well, May is here, and if you’re like us, April was just a dreamy fog, interspersed with images of: rain, Jessica Simpson, more rain, curly-haired trumpet players, and wine in plastic cups. Most likely, you’re not like us, which is too bad for you, cause it’s fun over here. We are even trying a new hair thing this week, braiding the top L.C.-style, which we think is cool, but the interns have been whispering and giggling a lot when they see us. Well, forget them! When they end up taking our job after we are inevitably fired, they’ll understand how hard it is to be us. Until then, here are the events this weekend that will only be missed by those who are boring. Yay, May.

Kanye West Glow in the Dark Tour - May 1

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you are totally not getting in to see the Raconteurs tonight. It’s sold out. On the other hand, lawn seats for Kanye West and Rihanna are still available, so what are you waiting for? If his Grammy performance was any indication, we can expect flashing LED jackets, light-up sunglasses, and a lot of neon, not to mention songs we love, such as “Stronger” and “Golddigger.” We are also loving Rihanna, who is loving Chris Brown, but still. “Umbrella” was our favorite song last summer, and now we’re obsessed with “Please Don’t Stop the Music.” Also on the bill are N.E.R.D. and Lupe Fiasco, so this show should be one of the best all year for hip-hop fans. May 1, 7pm. Superpages.com Center (formerly Smirnoff Music Centre), 1818 First Ave. 214-421-1111. ticketmaster.com.

Friday

5/2

Music: MIA

Though one of her songs features gunshots (“Paper Planes”), and we’re very anti-violence (ahem, ya), we still love M.I.A.

Saturday

5/3

Kid Stuff: Target First Saturdays

Hide the Nintendo Wii, load the kiddos into the car, and head to the Nasher Sculpture Center for some fun that happens to incorporate learning (just don’t tell them that).

Sunday

5/3

Happenings: Turtle Creek Home Tour

In its 8th year, this tour takes you to five of the most distinguished high-rise and single-family homes on Turtle Creek. Which is fun, but a little sad, since we’ll never get to live anywhere this nice, ever.

Monday

5/5

Galas and Benefits: The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary Fashion Show and Luncheon

Last year, we went to this event, and almost got stuck in between socialites as they rummaged through the racks of donated clothing. But the kiddos modeling on the runway were sure cute, and okay, we really like luncheons at the Frontiers of Flight museum, let’s just admit it!

Happenings: Cinco de Mayo at Urban Taco

Haven’t been by Mockingbird Station lately? In oh, say, a year? Well, you are missing out, my friend, especially on the tacos at Urban Taco.
